Hello, I am new here at this site so I hope I am not offending anyone by posting in the wrong place. I have multiple food allergeys, I can only have gluten free with out rice or corn, and most fruit and veg are also allergens (the birch group, apples etc.) Any ideas for a savoury type bread or starchy snack? I have some good recipies for chocolate cake. I am feeling really low trying to cope with it all. I have had allergies for years but it has got worse recently. Anyone with the same type of group of foods to be avoided?

Hoping to hear from someone soon.

Wow, I guess it would help to know all you are allergic to. What kind of testing did you have to diagnose these allergies, what specific allergies are they, and what are your symptoms when you eat them?

I eat a lot of fruit and meat with my allergies, and sometimes potatoes and rice, though I try not to over do those things because I've been trying to lose a few pounds. I guess some kinds of potato chips might be ok for you, like the Cape Cod brand. They are basically canola oil, sea salt, and tatos. Can you eat dairy?

I'm allergic to rice, too, among other things. What are you looking for, specifically?

There is a company called Against the Grain in Brattleboro Vt. You can probably find it online. It is made with only tapioca flour. It does have dairy in it though. Also Breads From Anna has a mix that I believe has no rice or corn. It has sorghum and millet. Check it out online.

Hi, I'm relatively new, too. That is, I read here a lot more than I post. I believe I am gluten-intolerant (have derm. herpetiformis-like rash and am awaiting some tests), and I'm nursing my third son, who seems to have multiple food allergies. Rice, oats and corn are strongly suspected...we don't have them all nailed down yet. His older brother has an IgE allergy to peanuts (anaphylactic), so I'm avoiding some other major allergens (milk, eggs, shellfish, nuts, peanuts) just on general principle. With such a restricted diet, we're always on the lookout for acceptable foods.

Have you looked at Cheecha Krackles, the Gluten-Free kind? You can go to www.cheecha.ca to check them out.

I just ordered some through www.allergygrocer.com. I have no idea whether they're good or not, but they're potato-based and different from the same-ol, same-ol chips.

You might want to check out Allergy Grocer, because you can check boxes for what you want to exclude. They have check boxes for corn, rice, gluten and many others.

I do get the Frito-Lay "Natural" line of chips at Target...fewer (and better) ingredients to read.

I've also become a big fan of the good old-fashioned pot roast with roast beef, carrots, potatoes and onions (if you're not allergic to any of those ingredients). It's the simplest thing ever to make in a crock pot, and I'm not much on foods that take a lot of prep time.

[Just curious...being corn allergic, do you ever have problems with corn-fed beef? I have wondered whether that could be an issue for my son.]

On a baked potato, have you tried nutritional yeast as a topping? It has a rich/savory/nutty flavor that is pretty nice with salt, pepper and olive oil.

Both CheriA and AndreaB have to deal with quite a bit of additional food allergies/intolerances. I'm sure one of them will show up soon with some ideas, or perhaps you could PM them. I know for sure CheriA's daughter can't have rice, and soy is the biggie with AndreaB. Cheri makes a sorghum sandwich type bread, the recipe is on Twin Valley Mills website. I don't know the address off hand, but if you google sorghum Twin Valley, it should show up. I don't know if you'll have to modify the recipe or not, I can't remember exactly what's in it.

I have been lactouse intolerant for many years as of a month ago was told i have Celica disease and 2 days ago was tested for Crohn's....after a year and a half of taking 16 pills a day for nothing....i was being treated for acid reflex apparently due to stress according to my MD....having both is no treat....eating the right amounts of food that are allowed is at times a struggle.....pointers if anyone here has both comments are searches would be apperciated

recipes: these are corn, rice, gluten-free, DF, also birch group here, too, I have stopped using cider vinager Sounds like we have similar foods to avoid, I am also beginning to wonder if I need to stay away from buckwheat, so moving towards millet and tapioca. I just found out I cant have quinoa, dont know if it is related or not.

we found some tapioca flour only vietnamese "rice" wraps (although I am suspicious)

I use lots of sorghum, millet, buckwheat, and tapioca

wraps: 1 cup buckwheat flour, dash of salt, 1/3ish cup tapioca, TBP or so oil, and warm water to make runny (1 cup?) let sit for a bit then pour very thin liquid into an oiled, heated pan (I use cast iron skillet). flip when bubbles pop on one side, makes for very good wraps - salmon salad, etc.

BRead - you may have to tweek this to your liking:

1 cup tapioca

1 cup millet or grabanzo

1 cup sorghum

1 tsp salt

2 tBsp sugar

2 eggs, 1 tsp vinegar, 2 TSBp oil

1 1/2- 1/ 3/4 cup warm water w/ 1 package yeast and pinch of sugar

pancakes

1 cp any mix of flours (buckwheat, 2/3 millet + 1/3 amaranth)

1/3 tapioca

1 tsp soda - mixed in well

2 tBSPsugar

dash salt

2 tsp oil

2 eggs

water to pancake consistency

"Grain-Free Fourmet" by Jodi Bager and Jenny Lass

All recipes in this cookbook are grain-free (they use almond flour), refined-sugar-free (use honey or maple syrup) and low-lactose

Using almond flour sounds wierd, but is surprisingly good and the baked goods actually rise with the leavening.

So if you can eat almonds, you might look for this cookbook in your library or do like I do - buy it used through Amazon. If you'd like a couple recipes from the book to try out, PM me.

      Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

      Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅

      So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.

      I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.

      Food and environmental allergies involve IgE antibodies.  IgE antibodies provoke histamine release from mast cells.   Celiac disease is not always visible to the naked eye during endoscopy.  Much of the damage is microscopic and patchy or out of reach of the scope.  Did they take any biopsies of your small intestine for a pathologist to examine?  Were you given a Marsh score? Why do you say you "don't have intestinal damage to correlate with lifelong undiagnosed celiac disease"?   Just curious.
