:P Very nice! I see that the vote for the worst people are encouraged to vote for Phil this week...if he continues like last week that wouldn't be the worst that could happen, lol.

Self evaluations... Ugh... Just say you kick butt and leave it at that... Think they'd accept that???

:P Very nice! I see that the vote for the worst people are encouraged to vote for Phil this week...if he continues like last week that wouldn't be the worst that could happen, lol.

Phil's definitely getting better again. I can't imagine he'll make it into the top 3 though. He's just not as good as the others. I really really really hope that Chris goes this week. I don't think I can stand another week of his nasal nonsense. It drives me batty!

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Phil was good in the beginning, we sang that Edwin Mcain song and I enjoyed it. Chris really bores me. John likes him, but John seems to be liking the underdogs....to each their own I guess :)

HawkFire Explorer

Who do you think will be in the top three?

I'm guessing:

Melinda

Jordin

Phil

I didn't put Blake in there because I believe with the VFTW votes, (and Blake has already been in the bottom three! :( ) he'll be voted out. I keep hoping for a miracle and Melinda will be voted off. She doesn't need American Idol. Apparently, she's the greatest singer in the known universe and she'll get a record deal no matter what at this point... so why not let her get voted off?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Sanjaya got a record deal and he sang at the white house today or maybe yesterday. My mom called to tell me.

:o:blink::rolleyes: No stinking way! Seriously, he got a record deal?!?! That really cracks me up!!

Angie ~ I'm with you....Chris's time is up, but Phil better be right behind him.

And, hey, I love the new avatar and the Marcia Brady voice! :P

Amanda ~ good luck getting your self evaluation done. Those are hard!!

I have to work tonight so TIVO better not screw up!!

 Yep, me too, but I bet they can make him sound a whole lot better with all the electronic gizmos they have these days...kind of the electronic version of airbrushing.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I am not sure who signed him, but my mom said he and Donny Osmond were signing at the white house. You are right he can get his voice gizmoed and sound out of this world. What will he do when he goes on tour though?

dlp252 Apprentice

Portable gizmos, lol?:lol: Actually, his concerts would probably be filled with screaming teenage girls who wouldn't be listening anyway.

Guhlia Rising Star

I actually thought Sanjaya had a very nice voice, just way too quiet and unconfident. Plus, he was a horrible performer. His voice though, especially for a recording studio, would be great. I'd be willing to bet his first album will do very well. Plus, the record companies would have to be a fool not to snatch him up with all the controversy surrounding him. It won't just end now that he got voted off of Idol. He will probably do very well in the business. I think he's the only one who I never thought sang off key once throughout the entire competition. He just doesn't project at all. I think after making the record and meeting with hundreds of coaches, he will come out of his shell.

I'm totally with you guys on Chris. He's gotta go. And with Phil right in his footsteps hopefully. The two of them just aren't good enough at this point. I think Jordin is just getting better and better each week and Blake and Melinda are already amazing. That leaves just Lakisha, Phil, or Chris to get voted off this week. I'm crossing my fingers that it's Chris, but I think realistically it may be LaKisha that leaves next.

confused Community Regular

After last nights perfomance I have no idea who I want gone. I do think lakisha did an bad job on her song, only fantasia can do that song justice. I think jordin was amazing. Blake wasnt that great but he there was not much he could of done to that song anyway. It did give me goosebumps tho.

I actually even voted last night, well when i could get threw.

I didn't see it last night, I had a bit of an emergency situation with a neighbor and by the time that was all settled and done it was almost 9 so I missed the whole show.

My mom said Phil did real well.

confused Community Regular

Phil did do an awesome job, I got goosebumps from his song also. I just wish they would lessen his eyebrows or dye them lighter, i think that would make him look better and not so scary looking at times lol

Guhlia Rising Star

I actually didn't really care for Phil's performance, though much better than some other weeks. I think LaKisha may go this week... She really just isn't cutting it anymore. I actually think that Jordin may pull off the win this year! She's definitely coming from the underdog position, but I think she may pull it off. She went from mediocre to excellent and that's what America loves to see. Plus, she's young, adorable, and funny. Unless Blake really steps up his game, he'll be voted out first from the top 3. :(

Amanda, Blake sang John Lennon's Imagine. It was good, but not amazing. LaKisha sang I Believe by Fantasia and it just didn't sit well with the judges. Phil sang a Garth Brooks song, can't remember which one, but the judges gave him rave reviews. I didn't really like it, he had a strange tone to his voice. I don't know what Chris sang, but he finally overcame the nasal thing and sang in his real voice. It wasn't bad, it didn't annoy me. I can't remember what Jordin sang either, but WOW! That girl is just phenomenal. She sang one of those songs that build up into a phenomenal end and she did really well with it. Oh, and Simon told Chris he was sexy. HA! Oh, and some company pledged 10 cents for every vote up until they reached $5 million!

Tritty Rookie

Chris sang a song by James Taylor I think...

I think Jordin is a shoe in! My husband has been saying since week 3 that she's going to win...

Jo.R Contributor

I didn't get to watch last night, had to go to a baby shower, but my bf recorded it so this afternoon we will watch it. As much as I like Blake and want to see him win I don't think he will, but I bet he gets a recording contract. Does anyone else think he kinda looks like a good looking Elmer Fud?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Thanks for the update everyone! I really like Jordin too. She is very pretty. She has energy too.

Chris's song was by Eric Clapton. I have that song by him on my ipod.

Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I actually did have my initial tests done while I was still consuming gluten. I stopped eating gluten only after those tests were completed, and it has now been about 70 days since I went gluten-free. I understand the limitations around diagnosing NCGS and the importance of antibody testing and biopsy for celiac disease. Unfortunately, where I live, access to comprehensive testing (including total IgA and endoscopy with biopsy) is limited, which makes things more complicated. Your explanation about small-bowel damage, nutrient absorption, and iron-deficiency anemia still aligns closely with my history, and it’s been very helpful in understanding what may be going on. I don't wanna get Endoscopy and I can't start eating Gluten again because it's hurt really with severe diarrhea.  I appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed and informative guidance. Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate you pointing out the relationship between anemia and antibody patterns, and how the high DGP IgG still supports celiac disease in my case. A gluten challenge isn’t something I feel safe attempting due to how severe my reactions were, so your suggestion about genetic testing makes a lot of sense. I’ll look into whether HLA testing is available where I live and discuss it with my doctor. I also appreciate you mentioning gastrointestinal beriberi and thiamine deficiency. This isn’t something any of my doctors have discussed with me, and given my symptoms and nutritional history, it’s definitely worth raising with them. I’ll also ask about correcting deficiencies more comprehensively, including B vitamins alongside iron. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to help. I’ll update the forum as I make progress.

Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.

Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?

Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
