Go to Google Scholar and type in "celiac depression" and you should have some hits. Click the Recent articles button at the top left and you'll get the more current ones.

Also google gluten and neurological that will bring up should bring up some good papers. If you search here for 'neurological manifestations' there was a link to a good paper also.

Karen - here's a link to some info from the University of Chicago, which is a very good hosptial with it's on celiac research dept! You can probably find more info at www.uchicago.edu too. Good luck, take care...

I'm going to be watching this carefully. My sister was admitted to the hospital in January, and ended up staying 2 1/2 weeks after having a nervous breakdown.

Karen, I hope that you get the articles you need to explain this to your family. I have tried with mine, but nothing was ever done about it.

She is now home, only taking her meds sporatically, and seeing a therapist every 3 weeks. It's not enough, and I'm very worried. Unfortuantely, there's nothing anyone can do, as she was deemed compatent.

I hope that your half sister is evaluated thoroughly while in the hospital--mine was sent home and told to see her medical doctor. (She has not, and probably won't) They knew she was anemic from a blood panel they took, but never followed up on it even after I gave my mom the information, including my gene test results.

I will keep you and your family in my thoughts--I know how difficult this situation is.

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
