I Found The Perfect Pans For Making Hot Dog Buns!

I was out shopping at this little dimestore near us that tends to carry some things that you can't find at the larger stores like Wal-Mart etc. I hadn't thought about making my own hot dog buns since I don't like fooling with making the forms, but I had just recently read the thread on here about an easier way to make them so when I saw these foils it made me think of that thread and that this would work well too.

I had to search around quite a bit to find a picture of them, but here's a link:

Not sure how hard they would be for people to find locally, but they really worked well. Smaller than what you're used to, but if you buy the regular size hot dog it just fits inside the bun. They rose more than I expected so next time I'll use less batter in each one. I also rubbed them with butter right out of the oven to keep them soft. I sprayed the foils with oil and the bread came right out and the foils were easy to clean and reuse.

One thing I might try is cutting and connecting two of these to make it longer for sub buns. The recipe I used was the one posted in the other thread on an easy way to make hot dog buns. It worked well and we toasted the inside of them on the grill.

WAY COOL!!! I think I'll definitely be looking for some of those. My way only makes 8 hot dog buns per batch. I have the feeling that I could get more buns if I did it this way due to the rounded edges. Plus, it would look more like a hot dog bun. :)

What did you think about the flavor/consistency of the bread?

I'm really picky when it comes to texture and I thought this had a nice chew to it. I think that since they rose so much it had too much bread for my tastes so if I use less next time it will be perfect. However, even with regular buns I tear alot off because I always thought it was too much so that's probably just me. I gave one to my mother and she really like it, but said the same thing. I think I ended up with about 15 hot dog buns from the recipe, but if I put less in each foil I'll get a few more than that.

I recently bought the Ener-G hot dog buns to try and did not like them at all. Tasted a bit rancid to me and it dissolved in your mouth which I cannot stand. I was quite happy to find something that worked so well the first time. I am not very patient when it comes to experimenting!

Glad you like the recipe. The Incredible Edible cookbook is one of the best (IMO). That's where I get a lot of my bread recipes. I'm the same way with hot dog buns. I like minimal bread compared to hot dog ratio. :P I thought the recipe tasted very similar to real hot dog buns. I was impressed! It's so nice to hear that someone else enjoyed it as well. I think I'll definitely be trying to find some of those twice baked potato foils. That would be so cool to have hot dog buns that actually look like hot dog buns. Thanks for the idea.

I have to jump in here and say that you guys had me dreaming about hotdog buns all night last night! I didn't sleep well because I'm recovering from a glutening but what sleep I got was filled with images of fluffy buns and perfectly rounded ends and bun, buns, buns and those shiny foil pans and a shopkeeper in the middle of nowhere with cavernous shop scouring back rooms for those pans.

BTW, what recipie have you been using?

I get canker sores one hour after eating Oats, and pimples in my butt.

Body dysmorphia experience. When I was at the worst of my gluten problem I use to get chronic constipation; I would spend long time sitting on the toilet. One day as I was tired of sitting, I rested my head on my hands and my elbows on my knees, as soon as I felt the pressure of my elbows on my knees the perception of my body changed to that of a tarantula; I visualized and it felt real. The perception went away as soon as I removed the pressure on my knees, I deducted that the pressure of my elbows on the knees caused the sensation, so I repeated the position and the sensation of having the body of a tarantula happened each time. I have not had that experience since then because I started a gluten-free diet short after. I wonder if those people that look distorted to themselves in the mirror could have something similar but with the responsible sensory contacts located on their feet. I want to document this experience because it might help some research or others, it sounds crazy but I feel the right thing to do is to share it.

Get tested for vitamin deficiencies.  Though neuropathy can be a symptom of celiac, it can also be caused by deficiencies due to poor digestion caused by celiac and could be easier to treat.

Thank you so much for your response  Yes it seems as though things get very painful as time goes on.  I'm not eating gluten as far as I know.  However, I'm not sure of cross contamination.  My system seems to weaken to hidden spices and other possibilities. ???  if cross contamination is possible...I am in a super sensitive mode of celiac disease.. Neuropathy from head to toes
