Eating Out

I've been gluten-free for almost two months now, and I am making a real effort to stay upbeat, but last night was just really rough. I was already sad because it was graduation night for our only child. On top of that, six of us went out to eat at the Cheesecake Factory, one of my favorite restaurants. It was the first time I'd been there since going gluten-free. Our waiter, whose dad has Celiac Disease, was wonderful, but it was just really hard looking at the three different kinds of bread, which I love, plus I couldn't have the pizza I would have ordered in the past. I had steamed broccoli and a salad. I couldn't even have the candied pecans, because they had gluten in them. It's just really hard sometimes. On top of that, I've had a tummy ache for three days. I don't have any IBS symptoms at all. It's just a "sour stomach." I know I haven't been glutened. Anyhow, just needed to vent.

Ordinarily, life is all about choices, with being celica is choices are extroidanaire. I find it a mind game. I eat that, I get sick, do I want to do that? Again choices.

There is not reason that you can not eat very well. But you have other issues going on. You are morning your loss of food, and the loss of your child moving on. And you have every reason to be emotional....and so should you.

You have a transition time ahead of you, but, take one on at a time.. Eat home as much as possible. Perhaps your son will be with you for the summer before school and so spend some quite time with him if you can catch him.

Relay and well wishes to you. Lisa

It sounds like you live in an area with a lot of restaurants if you have a Cheesecake Factory....next time maybe you could go to a really great gluten-free restaurnant like Carrabba's, Outback Steakhouse, PF Chang's, etc. and eat a huge meal to help you celebrate! That's what I do on special occasions!

But so sorry you had nothing good to eat:(

Congratulations on raising a great son! I'm a high school teacher and I know how exciting that graduation ceremony is!

I sobbed at my daughter's kindergarten graduation. In fact, I'm getting emotional now just thinking about it - and she's going into third grade...and I hit a squirrel on my way to work this morning - so I'm really just in an emotional place right this minute.

Sometimes I just really wish we could order a pizza or Chinese take out or something fun and easy like that. Then I think about the consequences and the pain and I realize my entire family is healthier because of the way we eat. And I feel better...sometimes it takes a glass of wine or a gluten-free beer...but I do feel better. And I have totally mastered pizza from scratch.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
