Do I Need To Worry About Toiletries If I Don't Have Dh?

if it's not affecting my skin, am I okay? I checked through my stuff today and didn't see anything that looked like gluten in the ingredients, but I find it hard to believe that I really don't own anything that has gluten in it. Maybe I'm not looking for the right things? Is it different from foods?

I've been D-free for over a month now just by altering my diet, but not altering my toiletries. So do you think I'm "in the clear"? Thanks! Still so new at this

Amberleigh, I personally think it does make a difference, and I will not choose things for myself that have gluten in, even if they are cosmetics.

I do not have DH, but I used to get little pimply spots in my hair. I had been gluten free for about a month and most of my little niggles, except for the D had dissappeared but I still had little sores in my hair. I wasn't too worried as I had noticed a couple of minor rashes had cleared up and thought the hair spots would go soon. But I had been washing my hair and I noticed the shampoo or conditioner had wheat starch in them. That was my eureka moment so I changed almost immediately and bought some sensitive shampoo and those spots were gone in a week. I was so pleased. But then if I use normal shampoo which does not appear to be labelled with wheat, it does seems to make me itch again over time, so more often than not I use sensitive shampoo for sensitive scalps.

I know this does not quite answer your question, but when you think about it, you wash you hair with your hands and hands quite often are near your mouth and then there is a chance that your shampoo could gluten you. Same with lotions etc.

I can't say you are in the clear, but it sounds good that your D has gone, I think it is a personal choice and because I had noticeable results by avoiding wheat in shampoo etc, I choose to avoid, not having those reasons to avoid I might have done it different.

I like what Dana Korn said in her book about this topic....if it bothers you don't use it(as far as topicals are concerned).

I totally agree you shoudl watch your lipstick and toothpaste. I ,PERSONALLY, don't check my lotions, shampoos, toilet paper, paper towels ect. I have not had any issues.

I do think it affects some people.

So in the end it's your choice!

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
