Hi all...

I finally received my emailed question regarding Almay makeup. I am going makeup-free for awhile to see if there is any change in my health. I hope I don't scare anyone!!!!

Dear Mrs. Reslink:

Thank you for your recent comments from the Almay website and your interest in our products.

Unfortunately, because of the way cosmetic ingredients are made and transported, we cannot guarantee that a product is gluten-free.

If we can be of further assistance, please call our Consumer Information Center toll-free at 1-800-473-8566. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM. Any of our representatives will be glad to assist you.

I knew there was some reason that I did not like Almay - and what does the gluten content have to do with its transportation.

BANNED FOR LIFE for me! AND Alison Mitchel should be fired for putting out that letter.

I wrote Almay and get a great response. I asked about specific products though. maybe that would help?

Can you post your response? I asked specifically about lipstick.

BTW - I am also "free" of nuts, etc... (not milk - but try to avoid) It keeps me skinny for a 38-year old mom with 2 teenagers. I don't stress it - except when I want to go to a function and freak out about mixed nuts out at the tables. I actually skip things if I know nuts will be served.

Lol. I am still having weight problems. I am thin, but I am about 5 lbs over what I want to be which amazes me because I can eat so little. I think it is summer break. LOL...lets hope!

I actually don't have the response from Almay anymore. Unfortunately I deleted it. If you want, what is the product you want info on and I'll write them and see what happens? Maybe if more than one person writes...we may get different answers?

I called Almay recently and asked about the One Coat Mascara. The woman looked it up and told me that all of the One Coat Mascaras were gluten-free.

They probably don't want to issue a blanket statement or give a list because suppliers can change as well as ingredients/formulations.

I don't rely on lists, but call about individual products (foods or personal care). That seems to be the way to get the most accurate information.

Thanks! That is what I will do asap! I don't want to get rid of all my expensive make-up.

Thanks Kassandra! I am going to call them.

BTW - 5 "extra" pounds is sexy! Be glad you have it, especially with our diet situation. My Celiac made me so sick and skinny that I got down to 100 lbs! Now that my body uses the food I eat, I have gained about 15 lbs and am thrilled! My husband loves it, and so do I. Perfect is in your own head. People will see you how you see yourself.

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

That's great news, you can do this.  Let us know how things go and don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions. Cristiana 😊

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶
