Almond Pie Crust

i was looking for an easy, yet yummy recipe for almond pie crust for a pumpkin pie.

also, can you help me with how to cook it too? do i cook the crust, then add the filling? etc.

i planned on using the recipe (from the recs on the board) on the libby canned pumpkin.

I just came across this one on GFCFrecipes (I think). Is it what you're looking for? I haven't tried it, though, so no help there.

Nut Crust origin unknown

1 - 1/2 cups finely chopped nut meal

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 tablespoons butter or margerine, at room temperature

Preheat the over to 400 (F). Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix

well. Press the mixture in a 9 inch pie plate or baking pan; you shoudl have

enough to cover the bottom and some of the sides of the pan. Place crust in

oven and bake about 5 minutes, or until the crust is slightly browned. Cool

then fill.

I just tried one like this. It turned out great but I cooked it for 12 mins (but you might want to start checking it at 10 mins because once it starts browning it goes quick). I used a glass pie pan and a temp of 350. I prebaked it for a cheesecake.

I used 1 cup of almonds and then ground them.

2 tbs melted butter

2 tbs sugar

I also added a shake of salt and cinnamon.

I used my fingers to incorporate the butter more evenly.

I put a little bit of the crumbs around the sides and pressed it smooth and then I just kept pressing it with the heel of my hand on the bottom until it smoothed out just rght.

You don't want to add any more butter or it gets wet.

( My kid loved it and she HATES nuts. I never did tell her it was nuts either. )

I normally use those graham cracker crust so I am happy that this crust turned out. It's not as perfect as the store ones, but it works for me! :D

Her eis a link to my favorite: Open Original Shared Link If you are using it for a no bake filling, you bake the empty crust at 350 for 10 minutes. Then fill as desired. If you are using it for a cooked filling, you press it into the pan, then freeze it, then put the filling in and bake.

thanks everyone!!!! that last one was the one i got the ingredients for. i didnt THINK to even freeze it!!!! AHH! so freeze it completely THEN fill and cook it right?

      Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

      @fatjacksonthecat I have been doing some digging about the topic of nicotine and celiac.  I came across many studies that showed that the nicotine patch helped many with long covid and chronic fatigue syndrome.  I have a son who was diagnosed with celiac and his symptoms are severe when he is glutened.  He shows a lot of neurological inflammation and suffered with fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety and insomnia. There have been studies revealing that nicotine smoke actually masking celiac symptoms.  I also read that microdosing with a nictoine patch prevents one from addiction.  We are currently trying this out and so far it has lifted the brain fog and helped with anxiety and mood.  One of the studies I have read showed that it's not so much the dose, but the length of time a person is on the patch that showed improvements.  Many showed significant improvement as early as week 3 and continued through week 12.  We are taking 3 day breaks in between to make sure we don't down regulate the nicotine receptors.   How have things been for you?  Are you still chewing nicotine gum?  Perhaps, try the patch?  And how long did it take to ease up on your symptoms when glutened?

      Hi @KathyR37 and a very warm welcome here.  I am so very sorry that you are going through all of this. I just wanted to check, have you ever been tested for any other gastrointestinal conditions? Cristiana

      @KathyR37, I would suspect that in addition to gluten intolerance, you have other food intolerances/sensitivities. This is very common in the celiac community. The most common offenders are oats, dairy, soy, corn and eggs with dairy and oats being the big two. Have you considered this? Have you tried keeping a food diary to detect patterns?

      thank you for your advice.   I have always taken them and I use Stonehedge because they are in a glass bottle, but don't have to be refrigerated.  I also like they are 3rd party tested and state gluten free. But you never know if something better has come alone over the years.
