May I vent for a moment about a totally non-make-up related topic? Thanks, because I don't feel like starting a new thread. So, I just moved into a new apartment, and guess what is all over my kitchen? ... seriously....alllll over it......

....Satan...sorry, I meant seitan (is that how you spell it?)

Of all the foods a person might be able to subsist on, why must my roommate choose pure vital wheat gluten? It is all over the fridge....and there are several packages of it in the freezer, just waiting to be defrosted and distributed to every surface in the kitchen. Seriously, there's probably one person in the entire Czech Republic who even eats seitan (I didn't think they even had vegetarians here lol) and I end up living with her. ug.... <_<

I must move.

Okay, anyway.....

Have you ordered a free sample kit from EM yet? If not, you should! EM discloses all of their ingredients :D

No, I don't mind your vent; I love the girly chattiness of this thread. ;)

I just find out about EM on this thread a few minutes ago, and I am unemployed and broke at the moment, so you can bet I am going to order my free samples today! Thanks ladies.

Don't feel bad Mango04; I live with the Pillsbury Dough-boy Baker, lol. If I give up trying to find a decent professional job and funding for graduate school, I'm going to trade my chips in and go teach English in Hungary or the Czech Republic. I'll come looking for you if that's the case.

Yeah, I've ordered a few of the free sample kits! You just pay the $3.95 shipping.

I starting using Bare Essentials a few years ago because regular makeup started reacting...then a couple of years ago I started reacting to the BE too, so I was really happy to find this makeup! So far so good!

Sorry about the roommate problem Mango. :(

Welcome Calicoe. You'll like EM. I have the sample kit and just ordered some more stuff to try.

Sorry about the roommate problem Mango. :(

Now that I'm over venting about it I kind of just think it's funny. Seriously, who eats pure chunks of gluten? LOL and how did I end up living with the one person who does?

 awesome. We can have our own little gluten-free club in the Czech Republic. LOL It is very easy to find a job here. It is not easy, however, to find a gluten-free apartment LOL, or a street to walk down where pastries and bread rolls aren't practically raining down on you. The gluten-free pasta is good though - straight from Italy yum! :)

am starting to notice the TESOL courses with an eye cast abroad. I will PM you if this gets serious.

I got mine shipped DHL ground and I'm not supposed to get it til Tuesday. :(

dlp252 Apprentice

I think I am the only one who has good luck with DHL, lol! I usually get my stuff in about 4 days from the date I order.

The kits were up this morning on the new site, but I can't add anything to them...I got some kind of warning about my computer not allowing cookies and you need cookies to add stuff to the cart. I do have cookies allowed, but it's restricted so later on I'll figure out how to okay it just for that beta website.

I have noticed that my skin does not like the finishing dust. I break out from it! :o:( I love the way it makes my skin look, but I don't like the way my skin looks 2 days later.

confused Community Regular

kASSANDRA,

You might have to try the rice finishing powder's.

I didnt get my makeup today, what an surprise lol. I also thought they would have up to 8 items in the sample kids, they look exactly the same to me lol.

You should try the Natural Reflections finishing powder. It doesn't have corn starch in it but gives a nice finish with an added boost of coverage :D

I got my make-up. The new colors are very pretty. I usually do not like the blues, but i feel like this one one is going to make my hazel eyes pop lol.

I can't find it on the site, and I'm afraid 153 pages is a LITTLE much for me to read at work. XD

Does anyone mind sharing what gram sizes are for the "small" and "large" eyeshadows are?

In fact, does anyone mind sharing the gram sizes of the foundations and blushes, too?

Thanks ever so much in advance!

Yeah, I stopped using a finishing dust and went to silk dust...my skin seems to like it better. I wasn't breaking out so much as it just felt weird.

I think the "small" eyeshadows are 2 gms. Don't quote me but I think the full size eyeshadows are 6 gms. The samples come in the same size as the small or mini size, but there is only about 1gm or so of product in there.

I think the "small" sizes in blush and foundation are probably 6 grams and the large 8 grams. The samples are probably less than 1 gram, but still PLENTY to get an idea of how you will like it. I used one of the sample foundations for a couple of weeks I think. BUT, if your name is MANGO, you might not last that long. j/k Mango

Hee hee, thank you! Estimates are as helpful as anything. Appreciated! <3

Mini Blushes: 2.5 grams

Large Blush: 6 grams

Same for concealer.

Mini Foundation: 2.5 grams

Large Foundation: 8 grams

Mini Finishing Dust: 3 grams

Large Finishing Dust: 9 grams

Mini Eye Color: 1 gram

Large Eye Color: 3.5 grams

I hope that answers your question about size. :) Just so you know, it shows the size of them on the old site, near the bottom of the page for each kind of make up (eg, concealer, foundation, etc.)

ShadowSwallow Newbie

I've rather been avoiding saying this, but it really does have to be said: I've developed eczema on my face. :( At this point the flat top brush and any sparkly blush is completely out, but my skin seems to improve minutely when I wear foundation vs. when I don't.

It is very frustrating, though. Takes quite a bit of joy out of makeup. <_<

AndreaB Contributor

I'm sorry Birdy. :(

I get eczema on my eyelid so I know what you're talking about, at least a little. It is not fun, and does take the joy out of makeup.

dlp252 Apprentice

Thanks Kassandra...I'm at home today so am on a SLOOOOOOWWWWW dial up connection and the thought of going over there to get the actual weights was too much for me today.

Birdy, I'm so sorry!!!!! I want everyone to have fun with this!

Guest digmom1014

Sorry Birdy, I have some high on my forehead now and NOTHING can cover it up!

Anyone else slipping into their old ways of not tapping the brush before applying? I do great with foundation but sometimes skip the concealer and get eye shadow all over my cheekbones. I think I'm in to much of rush to deal with the opening and closing of each separate item.

I have gone back to some of my old products, that are gluten-free, anyone else using both EM and old stuff?

dlp252 Apprentice

Yeah, sometimes I don't tap, lol. For me it's just lazyness, lol, I'm just too darned lazy to tap!

I haven't gone back to my old stuff because that really did cause breakouts for me, but I use all my old lipgloss plus a ton of new ones I keep buying. :P

I might suggest you consider buckwheat groats. https://www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organic-Hulled-Buckwheat-Groats/dp/B0D15QDVW7/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=GOFG11A8ZUMU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bk-hCrXgLpHqKS8QJnfKJLKbKzm2BS9tIFv3P9HjJ5swL1-02C3V819UZ845_kAwnxTUM8Qa69hKl0DfHAucO827k_rh7ZclIOPtAA9KjvEEYtaeUV06FJQyCoi5dwcfXRt8dx3cJ6ctEn2VIPaaFd0nOye2TkASgSRtdtKgvXEEXknFVYURBjXen1Nc7EtAlJyJbU8EhB89ElCGFPRavEQkTFHv9V2Zh1EMAPRno7UajBpLCQ-1JfC5jKUyzfgsf7jN5L6yfZSgjhnwEbg6KKwWrKeghga8W_CAhEEw9N0.eDBrhYWsjgEFud6ZE03iun0-AEaGfNS1q4ILLjZz7Fs&dib_tag=se&keywords=buckwheat%2Bgroats&qid=1769980587&s=grocery&sprefix=buchwheat%2Bgroats%2Cgrocery%2C249&sr=1-4&th=1 Takes about 10 minutes to cook. Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
