Alcohol- I Think It's Making Me Congested

I know I can't have grain alcohol. I try to avoid it. I almost always drink 100% agave tequila or white wine. It seems like every time I drink - whether it's these "safe" things or something else that's grain-free - I'm still really stuffy. Is it canceling out my allergy medicine? It seems to happen a lot. Last night my friend suggested that I might be allergic to the alcohol.

I've heard something that some alcoholics are allergic to alcohol, and sometimes that's a factor in the addiction. I'm not an alcoholic, but it does run in my family (on the side that doesn't have wheat problems)... so I'm wondering if there is a link there.

yeah that's normal, a lot of people are like that. nothing bad/to worry about...actually i wonder too because i know it's common, but i wonder what causes it...maybe just being used to it, who knows

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
