Need gluten-free Butter Substitute

My husband got his cholesterol test results yesterday, and it wasn't pretty. It seems like nearly everything in the house in low fat and low chosterol, with a few exceptions (dairy).

Anyone have any suggestions for a gluten-free butter substitution that would work well with cooking/baking?

I guess there is no hope for replacing his beloved cheese? :)

Hi Gina,

Smart Balance has a spread that "helps support healthy cholesterol" (or words to that effect).

Their products are marked gluten-free right on the container. :)

Also I would cook with more "garlic" as garlic is a natural cholesterol fighter, there are also garlic pills you can buy to assist as well

Garlic Pills are not as effective as fresh garlic. I just started to use the smart balance so i havent tried baking yet but for mashed potatoes and toast it is quite good.

THere is much evidence that eating fat and cholesterol is NOT what causes elevated cholesterol.

The key is to get as much sugar and carbs out of your diet as you can. And this is not for the faint of heart.. :P

The Atkins Diet has great success in lowering cholesterol, triglycerides, blood glucose, blood pressure, and of course your weight ----------------- when the diet is done the right way, it is a healthy diet..

He would not have to give up cheese or butter.

Read the Atkins Diet book. Very helpful.

You also could limit butter to stuff like toast and use olive oil for pastas, veggies and a lot of your of your sauteing and cooking. Hummus a dip made with chick peas, chi chi if your Italian :) , tahini, a sesame seed paste, garlic, olive oil and a dash of lemon juice is really tasty and also can help lower cholesteral. It is really easy to make. Most of the packaged stuff is nasty IMHO. More fruits and veggies and less carbs and sugar as mentioned is also a good idea.

      I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver.After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

      M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.
