There is a PF Changs downtown. They even have a separate gluten-free menu.

Also, a Phx celiac group has a website Open Original Shared Link and in it a page on restaurants. Open Original Shared Link

My mom lives in Phx now and i'm looking fwd to trying some of these myself !

So glad to see your post - am going to Phoenix myself the first. Only problem is air travel. Any suggestions? Sue

I live in Phoenix....have been recently diagnosed so I'm no expert yet, but the PF Chang's in Scottsdale has a manager with Celiac Disease. There's also Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba's Italian Grill-several of these, actually, all over Phoenix: Ahwatukee, Chandler, Scottdale, Avondale. There are also plenty of Trader Joe's/Sprouts/AJ's/Wild Oats stores where you can purchase gluten-free foods. In fact, my local Safeway has a large (for a regular supermarket) organic/gluten-free section. i get frozen meals, salad dressings, soups, mac and cheese, cereal, chips, etc. there.

If you need more help with Phoenix, let me know!

Oh, I just remembered that my one support group leader said that if people visited here (Atlanta) and asked that whatever-its-called Celiac support thing for help they would get her number and that if any of us needed help in traveling that we should cotact them and they would direct us to a leader in that area.

Here is a list of USA groups. . .I forget which she said.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
