Amoxicillin

Hi,

I'm in the middle of my first flu / cold and bad Laryngitis since I was diagnosed in 06.

Doc is giving me amoxicillin to try but said to check with the Pharmacist to see if there were any gluten containing binders.

of course the pharmacist said to check with the doc until I told her that the doc said to check with her. Anyway, she read off the

inert ingredients which included Microcrystalline cellulose and carmellose sodium.

I usually dont take any meds now unless I know for sure they are gluten-free. The pharmacist of course has no idea how these are made although

im pretty sure microcrystalline cellulose is made from wood pulp. Dont know about carmellose sodium.

So, does anyone have experience with amoxicillin or know about these other chemicals?

Thanks much

ken

I can't answer your questions specifically, but this current listing may. Hope you feel better.

The best policy is to get the name of the manufacturer and a 1-800 number (if possible). Call them and ask if their product contains gluten. They are of course the most knowledgable on the makings of their products.

Pharmacists and doctors are not going to know if a medication is gluten free. There are thousands of medications and generics for those medications. It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with the status of them.

If you can at least get the name of the drug company you can do a search online for their phone number to call. All of the drug companies I have called before are SUPER helpful. Good luck!

Thanks much

I'll have to drive an hour to pick them up but guess its worth it since I've been fighting this thing a week and sick of being sick.

The flu/ cold part is gone but not being able to talk at all is strange although I think my wife is happy about it http://www.glutenfreeforum.com/style_image...icons/icon1.gif

Since it's Kaiser, they get generic in from Honolulu and dont always know the maker so I have to pick it up, get the numbers, call their main Hawaii place in Honolulu and get he maker before I can call the 800 number. Sometimes I think its easier to check on the chemical make up by itself.

Thanks again

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
