Gluten Free Resturants Denver

So it is my birthday tomorrow and I want to go some place nice with gluten-free food.

I go out to eat A LOT and know most of the resturants in the downtown Denver area with gluten-free menus I was wondering if anyone had more knowledge than myself...

One of my favs is 'Zengo' on 1610 Little Raven Street. They have one of the best gluten-free menus I have seen in this city. I have been there more times that I can count. They are ALWAYS accomidating. Please try the Black Cod, it's to die for! Also if your into it... all the mojitos are killer.

Another place is 'Samba Room' on 1460 Larimer St. I had a very nice dinner there and my dinner from thier gluten free menu was great.

I went to 'Maggianos' in Seattle but know they have the same deal here. The chef came out and had a conversation with me about the pasta and what kind of sauce I wanted with what in it and what I wanted it to taste like. How fabulous...

Like other people on here I do enjoy the indulgences of 'Deby's gluten-free Bakery' but try not to let myself go there too much because I can't stay away from waffles and brownies!

I am also thankful for 'Beau Jo's' on 2710 S. Colorado Blvd. Finally a hangover cure!!

'PF Changs' on Market and 15th is also great. I can acutally eat gluten-free chinese and not worry about the soy sauce and weather or not its chicken or cat.

If your into hanging with girlfriends and chatting go to 'The 9th Door' on 1808 Blake Street. They have a gluten-free menu with tapas that I always find tasty. It is a nice place to have a glass of wine and worry about other things in life than god forbit if something is not gluten free.

It might just be me but I love to dip. How fantastic about 'Vesta' "the dipping grill" and all thier gluten-free options for those of us who sometime feel like we lack flavor and dippable options. BE AWARE the garlic that comes with the bread is VERY hard to take your eyes off of. (You have been warned)

I know about Stuebens, Lime, Parallel 17 and Outback Steakhouse with thier gluten-free options but I want something NEW and exciting. Please let me know if you have any ideas. If I find something before you, I will let you know!!

Just wanted to say hi, I live in Colorado Springs. Your post is reminding me of the great places to eat that are only an hours drive for me! We have nice restaurants down here as well!

Ooh, I just looked up the menu at the 9th Door. I found this post tonight when searching for a place to take my friend for her birthday. We lucked out and got a reservation tonight and I just got back. It was really good! Thanks! Post meal update: I got glutened. I posted for help from those who have been there to figure out why because the food was so good. It is a separate thread.

UPDATE:

So I went to 'Rodizio Grill' on 1801 Wynkoop St. for my birthday because I have heard raves about the experience.

I would just like to add a kudos to them. It was AHHHHH-mazing and would do it again in a heart beat.

The Brazilian Steakhouse had a print out sheet to follow for which selections were gluten-free. When the waiters came around with thier big skewers all I had to do was peep my sheet and see if I could devour the amazing meat selections they had. If you are a carnivore this place is a MUST!!

The only thing is just don't drink too much of thier fabulous wine so you can't read what your not supposed to eat!

Open Original Shared Link offer gluten free options. I know their food isn't the greatest, but if you live in Colorado, you gotta love the Rio and the margs. I live not far from the Lone Tree location and we needed some margs. I called them up and they said some in, we have a menu.

Now I will forewarn, it is a bad menu, because it lists all the things you CAN'T order. So their chips n salsa, salads, enchiladas (sans enchilada sauce) are safe for the most part. I didn't get glutened and my server thought I was insane when i asked for the menu.

A co-worker recommended Open Original Shared Link. I have not visited there yet (since getting diagnosed), but her son has a lot of food allergies and also avoids gluten. They were very accommodating. I do not have first hand experience with them, so there's my disclaimer. I did eat there a few times prior to being diagnosed and their food is great.

Though not downtown, I had good luck this Winter at a holiday party at the Open Original Shared Link in DTC. I was very nervous about going because it was with my fiance's company and they selected the menu. I was pretty much out for the initial welcome and happy hour appetizers, but was in good shape for the entree's. I let them know my needs and they were able to talk with the chef and let me know what I could have.

Open Original Shared Link on Orchard and University sells gluten-free pancakes, they are Deby's mix, but it's nice to go there, get pancakes, eggs and their awesome bacon! I have not had any reactions there. They do charge an extra dollar for the pancakes. I also recommend doing the community table if you go there on a weekend morning. It is a lot faster and you get to meet some nice people.

I was able to get a gluten free meal at the Tuscany Restaurant at the Open Original Shared Link. My fiance's parents stay there when they come to visit so we really enjoy eating there. I ate there many times prior to my diagnosis so we needed to contact them to make sure they could accommodate. Thanks to their great chef and fresh preparation it was pretty easy for them to offer choices.

I used to eat at Open Original Shared Link a lot when i lived in Denver proper, haven't been there since I was diagnosed. They have a link right on their homepage to their gluten-free menu.

As mentioned throughout this site by others I have had good luck with Chilis and Outback. With either of these places and really in any eating out situation, suck it up and make sure that everyone is on the same page with your needs. I hate being "that guy" that slows things down and special orders, but at the same time if they are willing to do it and I can still have that freedom then take advantage of it. There will always be risk.

I've found that in both Colorado and my recent trip to Las Vegas, that most places will try to accommodate your needs. The more upscale restaurants because of the nature of their preparation tend to do a better job. They don't always use cheap fillers and most everything is prepared fresh and not prepackaged.

Sadly it's really a common sense thing, and I guess it could be putting me in a position to get flamed, but look at the establishment you are going to. The nice upscale places tend to be more receptive to customizing. Whereas the lower end chain restaurant with the 20 something that was out all night (I used to be one) and the totally slammed kitchen staff are going to be more likely to mess up while at least trying to work with you. The further down the chain you go, the lowest level being fast food, you are at the point where so much stuff is pre-packaged or prepared in advance, has fillers and so on it makes it a real challenge.

I'd love to see more responses as to the good times and bad times folks around here have had at various restaurants. There are some places I really miss eating, like Little Anitas.

Hello, Just wanted to add to your list of great restaurants. I have eaten at many "Gluten Free" places and most fail to deliver

to my satisfaction. I have to say that the Blue Bonnet (Mexican food) exceeded my expectations! They hired the Gluten Free Detectives

to come in and certify the menu and kitchen. They have by far the most educated staff i've seen. It starts with the owners who

come to my table every time I'm there (twice a week) and care so much about my experience. They have an area of the kitchen

dedicated to gluten free food and utinsels. The greatest thing is that all of their normal food is served on white dishes, where as the

gluten free dishes are served on yellow or red dishes that way there's less confusion. They even serve seperate chips that are gluten free and home made!

The Gluten Free Detectives spent two weeks with the entire staff educating them on our special needs. Please show your support and get in there for some

great mexican food to keep the dream alive!

Abrusci's at 20th and youngfield, has some of the best food for gluten/and non gluten diners. My mother and sister were diagnosed and we love the calamari, and it comes breaded in Deby's flour. They have a special deal with Deby's and one of the main cooks is Celiac. Cheese bread is also really good to, coming from somebody who can eat gluten i like their gluten free stuff....worth checking out if you haven't already been there.

I too have had GREAT luck at the Pancake House. We have eaten there several times with our two kiddos and have not gotten sick. Also, they will do takeout orders which is helpful.

Also, the Blue Bonnet is AWESOME. I have not found another Mexican place to eat at. I saw the comments about the Rio. Has anyone else tried it, or know of any other mexican places that are kid friendly? I don't feel like getting sick while having a 1 year old smear enchilada sauce on me!!

The prices are pretty comparable to most breakfast places. I went there for Easter and it was awesome. You'll enjoy it.
