Is it going to be safe for my stepdaughter to use our microwave since it has been used previously with food that had gluten in it? Would it have to be cleaned after every use if something with gluten is heated in it before she could use it? Or can she even use it at all?

Hi Michelle,

Yes, your microwave is fine for her to use. Just clean it as you normally would and make sure her food is on a plate or dish. :)

I was continuously glutened by the microwave at work and ours at home. Any time I use it, I make sure to use a lid or cover it with plastic wrap or a silicone top. I do wrap tortillas in paper towels and the same for pre-cooked bacon.

Just to be safe, I'd always cover food.

I would personally recommend that a child with celiac disease, since its major danger is from malnutrition, not cook anything in a microwave. I know this is still controversial to some researchers but to me and many others microwaves not only zap all the nutrients out of food--so your malnutritioned child will be getting even less nutrients than she should, but the things are downright harmful to anyone's health. The gluten issue shouldn't be a problem unless she is putting her food directly onto a microwave surface that has also been contaminated by gluten. if you want more info on the possible dangers of microwaving go to www.mercola.com for links.

      Yarrow Pom works really well with the skin issues I found out.I had to stop so my doterra because dealing with medical celiac circus. I had shingles in Feb 2023. Prayers for healing

      I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon.       BFree bread is fortified with vitamins and minerals as is ASDA own-brand gluten-free bread. All the M&S bread seems to be fortified also.
