Welcome.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I can relate. I felt much like you. I too ate a healthy diet and kept thinking that "if only I changed this or that" or "it's just stress". Was working and got home and barely had enough energy to get dinner, prepare for the next day, get my son in bed and pass out myself. Many days I would come home and sleep an hour just so that I could get back enough energy to make dinner, only to go to bed again shortly after. If I didn't have a child to feed and care for I might not have bothered with dinner and just gone straight to bed for the night. Rush to the bathroom every morning and make several trips. Felt unsettled and couldn't have anything but chammomile tea for two hours after.

The following is a link to the Celiac Spru Association list of symptoms that convinced me.

The gluten-free diet has been a miracle for me. The difference is night and day. It is a process and takes time to heal but it is worth it. This forum is a wonderful support. Come back anytime and ask questions or just share. I wish you healing and health.

I am so sorry that you are going through so much. Your symptoms do sound much like celiac. Hopefully your blood panel will show a positve result but do be aware that there can be a false negative, (30% of us are negative on blood work) and don't lose hope that you may have found your answer if yours is negative.

The itching could be a celiac related skin problem called dermatitis herpeformis. If you have DH you have a diagnosis of celiac. To find out if the rash is DH a dermatologist should biopsy the skin NEXT TO an active lesion. The antibodies will be found there and not on the lesion itself.

If your blood tests are positive, and sometimes even if negative, doctors will often want to do a endoscopic biopsy to check and see if all your villi are destroyed yet. These tests also can have a false negative.

When you are done with all the testing that you choose to do then do make sure to try the diet strictly for at least a couple of months.

Welcome and feel free to ask any questions you need to.

I am so sorry for your loss. This must be such a difficult time for you, please know that you have many friends here for you.

There is so much information to take in at first and I will say it is quite difficult for so many people at first, myself included.

The first thing I did was stopped eating most foods and started eating very simply and no packaged foods. When you first start out it is overwhelming to read labels so stick with simple foods, meats, rice, veggies and fruits.

I promise you will start feeling better and getting your strength back, but don't feel discouraged because it can be a slow process.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Twenty-five years ago (pre-diagnosis), I suffered a miscarriage and I truly believe celiac was to blame. Two months into my pregnancy, I began to have severe cramps every once in awhile. I didn't think this should be happening, but wasn't sure since I had never been pregnant before. Finally, one night I felt very sick, cramping, and went to the bathroom and was bleeding. Went to emergency room and found out I was in labor. Was given 4 shots of demerol throughout the night, but it did not stop the pain, neither physically nor emotionally. Thank God, I did have 2 full term pregnancies later but it took me another two years to get pregnant after the miscarriage. Hang in there. Going gluten free is difficult, but so worth it. :)

Hey Julie! I was in a similar situation before my biopsy and my gastro said Tylenol was fine. Just avoid ibuprofen or anything anti-inflammatory until you're cleared. Hope your surgery goes smoothly!

I don't see how cornstarch could alter the test results. Where did you read that?

For pain relief I take a combination of Thiamine (Benfotiamine), Pyridoxine B 6, and Cobalamine B12.  The combination of these three vitamins has analgesic effects.  I have back pain and this really works.  The B vitamins are water soluble and easily excreted.   Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your results!

Welcome to the forum, @Xravith. I experienced similar symptoms before my diagnosis.  Mine were due to the loss of vitamins and minerals, essential nutrients we must get from our food.  With Celiac Disease, the intestinal lining, made up of thousands of villi, gets damaged and cannot absorb essential vitamins and minerals, especially the eight B vitamins.  The loss of Thiamine B 1 can cause muscle loss, inability to gain weight, edema (swelling), fatigue, migraines and palpitations.  Low thiamine can cause Gastrointestinal Beriberi with symptoms of nausea, abdominal pain and bloating.   Thiamine is only stored for a couple of weeks, so if you don't absorb enough from food daily, as the thiamine deficiency worsens physical symptoms gradually worsen.  If you're eating lots of carbs (like gluten containing foods usually do), you need more thiamine to process them (called high calorie malnutrition).  Thiamine works with all the other B vitamins, so if you're low in one, you're probably getting low in the others, too, and minerals like iron, magnesium, zinc, and calcium, as well as Vitamin D..  Talk to your doctor about checking for nutritional deficiencies.  Most doctors rarely recognize vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially in thiamine. Get a DNA test to see if you carry any Celiac genes.  If you do not have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably IBS.  If you do have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably Celiac.  I was misdiagnosed with IBS for years before my Celiac diagnosis.   Keep us posted on your progress. P. S. Deficiency in thiamine can cause false negatives on antibody tests, as can diabetes and anemia.
