Egg White Only?!

Does anyone else only tolerate egg whites? I haven't been able to eat eggs since going gluten-free but, this morning I tried an egg white omelet and haven't had any problems. I can't tell you how excited I am!

Does the white come back first? Anyone else notice this?

it is just more easy to digest. I have many many many intolerances but not in the white of the eggs. It is the yellow part that is suposed to be "difficult".

Good for you!!

I have always had a problem with the yellow of the egg ,it is so bad that I even ( could not tolerate the pie that is brushed with the yellow) So I eat egg white freid with salt and pepper, I used to put that on toast , I just eat it with potatoes. i think it is the Sulfa that I am not able to digest.

Mom23boys Contributor

I have always heard that the yellow is the "allergenic" part of the egg and many tollerate the white and not the yellow. I have no personal experience myself just the testimonies on allergy type boards.

I am lactose intolerant.

I have allergies to sulfites, sulfates, sulfa, and all sulfer dirivatives. Sulfa in egg yokes. Have only eaten egg whites for years.

Now I am to follow a glutten, starch free diet for rest of my life.

My eight-year-old son is allergic to egg whites.

Eggs yolks are high in sulfur. I dont tolerate any foods which are high sulfur.

Do you also notice problems with foods such as garlic and onions?? If so...it is likely that you cannot tolerate foods with a high sulfur content.

Rachel, I have a severe allergies to sulfa, sulfites, sulfates and any sulfer dirivative. My doctor wouldn't believe me until he spoke to an allergist about me. Now there is no medication for me. I have had anaphlatic shock because of sulfites used as preservatives, and in mouth wash. I can't have flu shots because they are made from eggs. Garlic, onions and cabbage have a natural sulfa in them. Garlic will cause such pain in my chests from GERDs (Gastro esphogus reflux disease). Onion I have problems with, but found if the onions are cooked most sulfa is taken out, so not so bad. Cabbage also bad, so I use grape leaves to make cabbage rolls, they are very nice tasting.

Did big no no yesterday, had wonton soup, with gren onions, with egg rolls!!!!!!! Man, did my hands swell. Not very smart on my part. This morning my hands are still swelled and my left eye was just stinking. So now I have to look for recipes for wontons to make my own wonton soup. I guess it going to have to be all natural. Also found out the MSG (monosodium Glutamate (Glutamate is gluten), which I have a severe allergy too most of my life, was telling me something back when about my gluten problems. Didn't know then how serious my gluten problems would get.

Gerri,

The problem with sulfur foods is usually a metabolic issue....meaning its not so much an "allergic reaction" (although you can be getting that reaction from the sulfa/sulfites). If you cant tolerate natural sulfur in foods it can be because your body is unable to convert sulfur to sulfate....which is a necessary process in the body and crucial for maintaining health.

That is the reason for my problems which began 5 years ago. When sulfur metabolism is inhibitied this leads to impaired function of the sulfation pathway. A faulty sulfation pathway causes impaired detoxification of many things.

There is an enzyme which is responsible for converting sulfur to sulfate (which is necessary for sulfation pathway and intestinal health)...its called "sulfur oxidase". If that enzyme is down we are not able to convert sulfur to "useable" sulfate and the sulfur can accumulate to toxic levels...which cause reaction.

Sulfur metabolism can be damaged by mercury and heavy metals...it can also be a genetic problem. There may be addittional factors but these are the most common I believe.

Also found out the MSG (monosodium Glutamate (Glutamate is gluten), which I have a severe allergy too most of my life, was telling me something back when about my gluten problems. Didn't know then how serious my gluten problems would get.

Actually glutamate is not gluten. They are two entirely different things. MSG is bad for you for its own reasons (its a neurotoxin). However, glutamate is naturally ocurring in many foods....including tomato, parmesan, mushrooms, etc.....it is in no way linked to gluten/gliadin. ;)

Thanks Rachel,

My boys and I have serve reactions to sulfites, sulfates, sulfa and any derivatives of sulfer. My one son, has seizures when he has to much sulfates, sulfites, in his system.

My oldest son takes after me and just has lots of stomach problems.

What you said make lots of sense.

As for the glutamate, the article did say that glutamate can be in wheat flour. Any rate I have severe allergy to MSG, as well as corn, and anything that may contain sulfites, sulfates, sulfa and any derivatives of sulfer. I have problem with tomatoes, but I still eat them. Muschrooms, I have had no problems with them, nor with parmesan.

I have to watch hair shampoos, I end up with sores on my scalp.

These allergies are getting worse they are looking into RA and Lupus.

Hugs

Gerri

Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗
