Invited Out To Dinner At A Spaghetti Factory!

We have just decided yesterday to put our baby girl on a gluten free diet since our elimination of dairy had not helped her 100%.

We had previously been invited to a birthday party at the Old Spaghetti Factory!

I checked their menue and besides chicken fingers and french fries, which I assume would have batter my daughter can't eat a thing!

I am thinking of making my own rice pasta and sauce and brining it with us.

What would you do?

I don't know where you are from but most of the spaghetti factories offer gluten free pasta (corn) with some sauces that are safe. We just got back from dinner out at OSF. The marinara sauce is safe, as well as the mushroom sauce and Mizithra. The pesto salad dressing is safe as well. They do have a gluten free menu list, you just need to ask for it and clarify that the meals are gluten free when you order.

We eat at OSF occasionally and have never had a problem. I do make a point to tell the waitstaff WHY we're ordering the rice pasta and ask that an allergy alert be placed next to our order. From my observation, I always ask now for the bread to be sliced in the kitchen before brought to the table--unless you can avoid the bread altogether. The bread is very crusty and crumbs fly EVERYWHERE!

If you dont want to go to the rice pasta way, they will make a side of broccoli with their brown butter and cheese if you ask. Make sure you mention that it needs to not be cooked in the same water as the pasta. They were able to make that for me as well as a chicken breast with marinara sauce.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
