I am confused about alcohol, like what is in vanilla flavoring. I have been avoided anything with flavoring and also anything with alchol. I am not sure about isoprobable alchol.

Alcohol was formerly associated with gluten. But, now it is said that the distillation process removes the offending gluten. All distilled alcohol is considered gluten free. (Although, a few here will react to grain based alcohol). Many alcohols are not grain based.

Vanilla flavoring should be safe. McCormick's is a company who will clearly list all forms of gluten.

Thank you for posting this! I posted one a couple down from you yesterday titled "Extracts" and I'm trying to get more information as well. If you don't mind, I'll paste my post here and maybe I'll get some more advice as well.

Hi there! I know this has probably been discussed so much, and I did find some of it on a search, but I'm new to all of this and was hoping you could help.

Extracts (pure vanilla, almond, etc. -- no colorings)? I mostly use Watkins extracts and thankfully a lot of Watkins products are gluten-free but the extracts (except the peanut butter flavor) aren't on their list. I contacted them and here is what I got:

"Alcohol in Extracts

The alcohol in our extracts is primarily derived from corn. However, it cannot be guaranteed that there is no wheat in the fields of corn. For that reason, we do not include alcohol-containing products on the gluten free list. Also, most of the alcohol evaporates when products are cooked or baked."

What do you think?? I sell Watkins so it's the main brand we use in our home for pretty much anything. I'll hate it if I can't use it anymore!! But I know we have to do what it takes to keep my dh healthy (and possibly my daughters).

I also found this and was wondering what you thought of it, regarding what she says about the extracts:

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
