PS........ had to ask...........are there alot of smokers in Temecula?

While i was in CA in Jan I only saw 2 people smoking on the street........in 12 days.

I think in general there are probably fewer smokers in CA than in other states, which makes it easier now because you are not surrounded by smokers. We really noticed how many there were in Nevada, but don't notice them so much now that they have limited where you can smoke.

I haven't posted here in a while, but I am reading along. I passed nineteen years smoke-free a couple of weeks ago. I am strongly supporting everyone's desire to go tobacco-free. YOU CAN DO IT! {{{Positive Energy Transmission}}}

I can beat you Peter (oneupmanship here); I will celebrate 40 smoke-free years next month. However I did do some passive smoking :( for four years when I was stuck in an office with three smokers and lousy ventilation. What a nightmare that was. I made sure my desk was next to the door....

kenlove Rising Star

Thanks Peter -- can use all that positive energy for no smoking and dealing with the diabetes.

You've alwys been a support and its appreciated

It really does help............esp the long timers

so admire you guys and i'm starting to admire myself too as I'm thinking of myself as a 'non-smoker' now........sure took me long enough

Congrats to everyone who has been smoke free for that long! Amazing.... :D

Judy, no there are not a lot of smokers in Temecula. Unless you go to the casino there are not many out there. I always found myself being stared at by kids/adults or making comments while I smoked in my car. Or if I was in a parking lot I would get the evil eye even though I was far from any crowd of people. That is why I refuse to be a rude ex smoker lol.

Mushroom, I used to live in Reno, NV and I remember when you could smoke every where. It is kind of sad how people are moving to that state and complaining about the smoking. It is Nevada! Hello, leave the smokers alone. There are worst things going on there than smoking lol. Before I quit they banned smoking in bars, etc in NV and when I found out I got a bit upset. I used to look forward to my trips to NV so I could have a smoke after dinner lol.

Maybe I havent been a non smoker long enough to be effected by this. lol what a rant.

kenlove Rising Star

Your so right! The amount of support on the forum is inspiring-- For me with the celiac 4 years ago, diabetes 3 weeks ago and now, not smoking, i've be lost without the forum --

Well, I was not a rude ex-smoker and I did leave them alone, especially since I only visit the state for three months a year, so I'm really a guest (though resident) there, but it did affect me. There were so many places I just could not go. My lungs are now very intolerant of cigarette smoke and I start choking and coughing.and spluttering immediately.

Sort of all hit me at once so when I got pneumonia and a broken rib from coughing the no smoking was kind of a no brainer.

Just have to keep looking for new stuff to try.

Hi Judy! How are you doing today? I hope you are feeling better. How long have you been a non smoker as of today? A little over 4 months right? If so you should be so proud of yourself. I know its hard. How is the move coming along for you? At least you will not live in Temecula this summer lol, it can get hot there.

Susan how are you doing with your quit? Friends and family still being supportive? I hope so.

Ken how are you? Where are you headed off too?

I am still struggling myself, sometimes I find myself thinking that smoking will make me feel better but I know it wont. I ask myself is this extra anxiety, depression and not being myself worth it?

Yes it is worth it, because this too shall pass. Oh so hard though.

16 days, 11 hours of your life saved.

Your quit date: 12/23/2008

Jen

I don't get updates tho i signed up

don't know if this is accurate or not

I hear you Jen, sometimes i think i need a 'kick' and want to just feel that but with the stress of this week i didn't smoke so guess i'm going ok.

working around contractors, not water in kitchen and can't eat out......so kinda stress full

sorry your feeling stress too

what you wrote on 'anger' was a good read

i re read it when i need to

Ken where were you going????

have a nice smoke free weekend everyone

kenlove Rising Star

As much as I would sometimes like one, i managed to convience myself that smoking would make me feel worse, not better. perhaps its from the fresh memory of pain of a broken rib.

after almost a month the difference in breathing and sleeping is amazing too.

I never understood untikl a few days ago why some ex smokers can get upset when people smoke

in no smoking areas. it really does bother me after awhile.

SO last night while waiting for the plane a lady was smoking inside the terminal which is a big no no in hawaii. Kind of crowded and it stank AND made me sort of want one -- so I went up to her and said please put it out,. I quit a few weeks ago. I'm not gonna turn you in but its really bothering me so if you have to smoke go over and stand in the corner. She glared at me and put it out--

I never would have done that a year ago and I wouol dhave glared at someone and put it out --

but now I understand!

good luck

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?
    • knitty kitty
There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.

Thanks very interesting I have to see if I should take these 2 vitamins along with my multi and super Vit B complex or if its too much or would hurt me. I don't have any other health issues but would love to see if this improves anything especially to feel stronger build muscle.
