Gene Test Results

My Gene tests are below with my signature. Is there any experts out there who can give me further explanation of the number stuff and the subtypes? I understand I do not have Celiac, but gluten sensitivity and they said I have gluten sensitive genes from both parents and my children will have at least one. I have gluten ataxia and lower colon problems. I have read and re-read the gene info and I feel like I understand, but then I don't. Especially the subtype number thing. Thanks

You and I have the same genes. I had ataxia, vertigo, migraines and neuropathy. GI was minimal.....just going 6 times a day.

My ataxia is nearly gone, vertigo is getting there, but the migraines, neuropathy and frequent BM's are all gone. :)

I am not a gene expert, but our genes predispose us to gluten sensitivity, grass allergy and a few others.

One of our genes is protective of T1 Diabetes. Genes have good and bad points.

Cool! I take daily med. for the migraines. I don't dare to cut down and find out yet, but will in the near future hopefully. My vertigo is getting better. The numbness, tingling, twitching is gone some days and rearing its ugly head others. My bowels are up and down. You see I had severe constipation from gluten the last two years, after years of Dia. I still ache all over some days and my lower colon is bad right now. If it doesn't hurt, its spasming or ice cold, like a cold spot. I will be having a colonoscopy soon. I had an apt. on Dec. 8 with a new doc. that just got changed to Dec. 22, so now I have to wait again! My head is clearing, I talk better and the literal "Haze" visually is better.

I was reading on the Ataxia, kind of scary what it does the the base of the brain. No wonder I couldn't walk straight. That is getting better too. I was getting so discouraged, I really felt like I might be slowly dying there for awhile. I was giving up because I couldn't seem to get help from the medical community. No one around here seems to knows much about it.

I ate chocolate chips in gluten free cookies this week and I don't feel to well the last few days. I think it was the "soy licithin". I had read it was of "no consequence" to persons with soy allergy because of the way it is broken down. ( I've had that for 30 years) I know I have not eaten gluten. What do you think about the soy licithin? My usual gluten symptoms seem worse right now. Could soy do that?

I avoid soy. I make all my own food from scratch. I cannot eat chocolate at all. I get severe rebound depression. I have challenged it so many times and always regret it.

Any food can cause symptoms, you just have to eliminate/challenge to find out. It is no fun, but can be rewarding when you nail it down.

My genetic sister, you are on the right path. My migraines were the first to go and have not returned. :)

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:

Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
