Bubbles

This may sound strange but I wonder if anyone else has had the same symptom. I've been gluten-free for 6 weeks. About two weeks ago, I started getting the sensation of bubbles moving under my right rib and down the right side of my abdomen after eating, especially mid-day. Sometimes the bubbles are accompanied by an audible gurgling sound. Other times they are silent. Usually they last for about 1/2 hour. Could this be part of the healing process? A symptom of another problem? One of the weird things is that this bubbling sensation was one of the first things I experienced when my symptoms began 5 or 6 years ago. I've had this symptom on and off since then, but it's only been persistent again since going gluten free.

I can only answer based on my own experience but for me that would be a sign that I have gotten glutened.

Same for me, or I have eaten something with too much fiber, usually just the insoluble kind seems to aggravate me.

Can I ask those of you (and anyone else) with this symptom who also thinks it is a sign of having been "glutened" to let me know how long after you get glutened it happens, and how many days the symptom lasts? This sounds obsessive, I know, and everyone is different. But I'm almost certain I'm not getting glutened; knowing other people's experience with this may help me pinpoint times when I might be getting hidden gluten. Thanks, and I'd love to hear from others who have the "bubble experience" too.

I always have "bubbles" and gurgling in my tummy. And yeah, sometimes up and down my sides too. I have been gluten free for almost 2 years now and it's still there. I am obsessively careful about what I eat and I know that I am not being glutened every day. So, like was stated above, perhaps it is just too much fiber? I eat a lot of fruit and veg.

Your bubbling is not alone!

That is a symptom of glutening for me, typically within a couple hours of gluten ingestion. Sometimes too much fiber can give me some of that sensation but more typically it's gluten and I feel it up high over my small intestine first.

And, I unfortunately must report, that even 3 and a half years gluten-free, I still get random glutenings that are difficult to trace even with a careful daily food log- it can be VERY frustrating! I eat very few processed foods and cook whole foods myself so...

Keep checking items you eat and use and I hope it passes!

Feel well,

lisa

Hi Anthony,

You could be getting glutened, or it could be your GI system is adjusting to your new diet. I know my guts got a lot more "active" after I went gluten-free. I figured it was a sign of healing, that the intestines were healing and getting stronger and their movements more noticeable. I had spasms in my gut for weeks after going gluten-free, not real painful but persistent. You also could be more gassy for a while as your gut flora re-adjusts and stabilizes in the new gluten-free environment.

This is really helpful  I had not considered sugar alcohols or inulin as triggers. Thanks for the practical baking tips too color coding and baking G F first makes a lot of sense. Thiamax (TTFD) plus a B-complex, and if you want benfotiamine, the Life Extension formula covers that at ~100 mg.

High fiber can definitely cause sudden GI distress especially if it’s a new addition but accidental gluten exposure can feel similar. Keeping a simple food/symptom log and introducing new gluten-free foods one at a time can really help you spot the pattern. Thanks for asking  I’m mainly looking for gluten-free staples and snacks. Any recommendations for brands or go-to items would be appreciated.

sorry a bit confused so I should take my B complex along with Objective Nutrients Thiamax for TTFD but what about a Benfotiamine to take. The Life extensions contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine together or im confusing myself. I am trying to see if I take Thiamax what should I take for Benfotiamine. Thanks EDITING after further research I see ones water soluble ones fat soluble. So I guess 100MG as you suggested of Life Extension contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride. and the Objective Nutrients Thiamax contains TTFD.     would work for me.

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.
