Wheat? In My Flax Seeds!

So I'm eating one of my favorite little snacks and sources of fiber. Nutty flavored flax seeds. I look into the bowl and see what looks like a grain of wheat that has been smashed a little. I handed it to my husband and asked him what he thought it was. He said bird seed. I said impossible (because it is), then he said Wheat! (Our old birdseed had wheat in it).

Stupid cross contamination. I'm not positive it was wheat, but it sure looked like it and it was from a company I trusted (Hain Celestial/Arrowhead Mills). So now I'm wondering about all my past mystery glutenings. Were they times I had flax. I don't think so.

Who has a safe company for flax seeds?

Crummy. I ate out of the bag earlier in the week when I was feeling bad from a glutening. Hopefully, I don't get sick since I didn't eat the kernel. Grrrr.

I have read (but can't remember where) that Hain is not the best source as far as cross contamination goes. I don't have any flax seeds at the moment. I normally buy them at my health food store and can't remember the brand. I do have ground flax from Costco and have had no problems with it.

I use Hodgkin mills and I believe Bob's Red Mill has flax seeds as well. I try not to use Bob's Red Mill....I sometimes have reactions to BRM stuff...

Arrowhead mills has flax seed that is certified gluten by the celiac sprue association.

I was eating Arrowhead mills they are associated with Hain Celestial (Hain is in small print on the back). I wonder if the flax flower produces something that looks like wheat that got into the line. It sure was pointy and solid and tan like grumpy Mr. Wheat man in the advertisement on the right. Hmmm. Maybe I'll give it a month or two and then try again. I didn't eat the wheat looking thing, and didn't have a reaction to the rest of the seeds in the bag. (although I dumped the bag after I found the wheaty thing).

Thanks for the tips on the other companies that make flax seeds. I'll see if I can pick them up.

I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance  etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside  my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress.

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?

Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.
