Hey all, I was just wondering if I could get some support? I am a 22 year old college male and the other night my parents took me out for dinner, I was broke!! haha. We went to lonestar steak house and I ordered my steak with no seasoning as usual but I have been sick ever since. This was Sunday night and it is currently Tuesday late afternoon. I have had the worse diarrhea since before I was diagnosed. I was wondering how long this usually lasts? I also have the aches in the joins and fatigue, but the diarrhea is the wrose!! It was so bad today that I acually ditched all my classes for fear of driving to school and sitting through class without having an accident. Anyway, I was just wondering how long this will last or if its something else. I have also been taking metamucil fiber lately just becuae I dont get enough of it in my diet.

I also looked at lonestar's web site and it said to order steak withou seasoning which I did, but also without lemon butter, which I did NOT. I also had a cesar salad without cruttons, but jsut found out the dressing has gluten in it!!

Could this little amount of gluten have caused all this trouble??

Thanks for any hlep!!

Sean.

Hi Sean

Sadly enough yes, you can get this sick.... no one can say how long it will last it depends on the individual person....While you are feeling so poorly maybe you should stop the metamucil .......some say they have found tonic water, probiotics & enzymes have helped with their symptoms. I haven't tried any of these remedies myself.I do on a regular basis take enzymes & probiotics.

Are you in Pittsburgh, Pa. If so there is a gluten-free ministry in Butler, Pa. meeting on April 2,09. If you wish more info just let me know...

My favorite saying is " You can get sick at Grandma's House so you can get sick from anywhere"... Dining out is always a crap shoot!!!! Take your chances....

I have had good luck at Red Robin, Uno's (pizza), The Longhorn Steakhouse, Smokey Bones , Boston Market.

Hope you get feeling better soon....

Yes - that amount of gluten could be causing all the trouble. Sorry to hear about it. I too would stop the metamucil until you start to feel better... might be adding to the runs right now.

I get very ill from even the smallest amount of gluten since going gluten free, and it takes about 5 days to me to see improvement after getting gluten. I eat lots of rice and bananas, and drink tons of water. I stick to very safe foods while riding out that bad days. And I have to keep reminding myself that it will improve so that I don't get too down.

I get the fatigue and joint pains too - so I know your pain.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hey, hope you feel better soon. I got sick as a dog after one bite of one Dunkin Donuts munchkin. One bite. I never really had symptoms before so this is totally shocking. I keep trying to eat out, but it seems really hard. You made really good choices, it sucks that you still got sick. Sometimes this disease is really annoying :)

Hello again everyone!! I really appreciate everyone's imput. I am still feeling miserable though! I have been feeling sick for almost three weeks now! Can this be from eating gluten? Usually I feel better before now, but this time it is lasting forever. I have to use the restroom almost right after I eat, especially in the morning. I have been watching my gluten free diet realy good lately and it has not gotten any better, sometimes I feel its getting worse. Should I call my doctor? Thanks agin everyone, the support means so much to me.

Yes you should call your doctor. You could have gotten food poisoning or have something else going on.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
