So my daughter and I both got glutened and today was awful! I not only had to deal with my feeling like crap, but her too. And I felt sooo guilty for putting her through this. She is only one and I try to be so careful but I didnt even think and we had juice with gluten in it at a friends house. She is always such a happy baby but was so cranky! And I cant blame her I know how she feels I was cranky too. Then when my husband came home he was mad cause I had not done any house work today! And he tries to be understanding and he did it all for me but he thinks it is in my head. I told him he doesnt know anything about it and he said yes I do you get sick if you eat flour!!!! I wish he would come on here and read about it so he would know what we go through! Sorry for all the ranting! Mostly I would love to hear how you guys deal with the guilt of giving your children gluten and any advice on how to get my husband to understand. Thanks for listening!

Oh yes, it is so hard at first getting the family on board and understanding. How awful to be feeling so bad about what had happened and then be hauled over the coals for it to boot. Yeah, like you really wanted this to happen :( Husbands come in all different shapes, sizes, and persuasions, and we have to work on them however we think it will work best. Despite what the clothing manufacturers say, there is no "one size fits all." (you just have to look at my head and feet to know this).

Glutenings happen. We hope they will decrease as we become more experienced, knowledgeable and careful (i.e., knowing what to be careful about). But there is so much to learn at first you can't become perfect right away. Don't beat yourself up and try not to let him beat you up, because you are doing your best and that's all you can do. Just learn all you can, read every label (even if you read it last week because unfortunately labels do change--yeah, that's why gluten free shopping takes so long!!) Pretty soon it will all become second nature to you and it won't be such a problem; things that are dramas today will be old hat tomorrow. Hang in there and you will both see it through. :) Above all, try to retain a sense of humour because things do tend to get out of proportion.

Do try and get him to come here and get some more knowledge about the effects of this disease. You should not have been berated for being ill and dealing with a child who was also sick. Your child and your health are more important than doing the dishes and picking up the house. You are not supermom and your child needed you and you were there for her even though you were feeling awful yourself. There is a lot to learn about how gluten sneaks in and it is very hard at first. He needs to learn to adjust to it also and perhaps he could go with you to the doctors and the doctor could reassure him that it is not 'all in your head' and that when glutened you just are not going to be able to do the stuff that you can do when your not. It takes time to heal and you need his emotional support not condemnation. How would he feel if he had the flu and you were screaming at him that it was 'all in his head' and he needed to go out and get the lawn mowed. He really needs to get some knowledge about this disease. If he doesn't even care enough about you and your child to take an hour or two to sit down read and learn I would wonder whether he wants a life partner or a maid.

I noticed eating gluten-free or CGF foods have higher sugar and sodium some. No added sugar protein bars I found better with plant fiber. I wanted to know what are you go to besides whole fruits/veggies that you find are healthy for you where you can feel eating normal without hurting yourself or health. I was looking into subscription based like Thrift to see if there is something that is healthier CGF that can make me feel normal. Thanks

Cristiana, that sounds like a great approach and I will be looking forward to the results. I am in the same boat as you. I don't experience overt symptoms with minor, cross contamination level exposures so I sometimes will indulge in those "processed on equipment that also processes wheat . . ." or items that don't specifically claim to be gluten free but do not list gluten containing grains in their ingredient list. But I always wonder if I am still experiencing sub acute inflammatory reactions. I haven't had any celiac antibody blood work done since my diagnosis almost 25 years ago so I don't really have any data to go by.
