Allergist Or Gi?

I have new insurance that doesn't require referrals for specialists. Decided to bypass the whole "general practice" doctor, since my current one is clueless about all this stuff. Would it be best to start with an allergist?? Or with a gastro doc? I would like to start out with bloodwork - not biopsies and endoscopies and stuff. What do you thinK? Thanks.

For general celiac stuff--definitely a GI

I agree go with GI doctor for celiac related things

A GI would order bloodwork for you. Start there. I went to an allergist, sent by my doc, and it was a waste of my money and time. Every food thing I mentioned, he said was an intestinal issue, and not an allergy. Then he said "just don't eat it, you can live without it." Definitely start with the GI doc.

I agree. Allergists don't usually know much about celiac. My sister tested positive for tissue transglutaminase, but when she asked her allergist, he said if gluten doesn't bother her then don't worry about it.

How would she know if it bothers her if she's never gone a day without it? She has food allergies from A-Z, most likely caused by the celiac disease.

def. a GI, the allergist I went to didn't know squat about celiac, and concluded that I didn't really have any food allergies, therefore safe for me to eat wheat

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
