 How do I get a picture by my name like some people have? Or is that only for special people?

Nope--everyone's special :D.

Click on "My controls". Then go to "edit avatar settings" on the side of the page. Then either upload a picture or pick one from the gallery! :)

Hi mytummyhurts

We are all special!

Thanks for helping find out where to go, now I just need to figure out how to resize my own photo to get it down to 50KB, right now it's 1.8MB. I'll ask my husband tomorrow, unless it's really easy and somebody can explain how to use your own photo. :D

celiac3270 Collaborator

Okay. First you need to get it on some sort of a photo editing program. Do you have one on your computer? What program is the photo in right now? Then you need to "crop" it. To do that you usually click on a dotted square/rectangle option. Then you drag the square to fit it around the part of the picture you want to keep. Then you hit crop and the part outside the square is deleted. This gives you a smaller pic. If your husband can do it, you might just ask him about it.

I use Picsizer: Open Original Shared Link

It is terrific!! Doesn't add any weird adware or spyware to your computer. It can make file sizes really small - WONDERFUL for attaching to emails, or sending over the internet otherwise.

mytummyhurts Contributor

Awesome, thanks. I'll try it out. :D

I changed mine finally :) celiac3270 YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOURS! :)

Lol  ....a few reasons why I haven't. First, I don't really have anything to put in its place. I don't have a cute dog (used to, but not anymore :( ) that I could use the way Karen does and I don't have any good digital pictures. And all the regular pictures have my family or at least by brother in them so if I scaled it to size, you wouldn't really see me anyway ;) . Also, I've actually become somewhat attached to my waterfall...lol  . I've had it for so long that I feel it's something that's....easily recognizable. I see the waterfall and I don't even need to look at the user name.

So to what am I to change mine? And why? I'm not changing w/o putting up a fight :D

What a little princess!!!! ;)

Karen

Hey, thanks everyone for the compliments!! I was never a cute kid... so I enjoy the vanity, vicariously (sp?) thru my daughter. *laugh* She is a princess. We just decorated her room. Bright pink (too bright, if you ask me!). Bought a package of Disney' Princess wall decor. 4 sheets, each about a square foot, with the depiction of a princess. Then, she has a princess bed wrap. it's makes her bed look like a carriage, whisking her off to the castle!

Guest ajlauer

".... Oh no! It's midnight! As Cinderella runs to her carriage, she accidentally drops her gluten-free food lists! No time to get them! The next day, the prince sends his men out to find out: Who is the owner of these gluten-free food lists? They knock on the door of Cinderella's home. Her evil stepsisters try to deny that she was ever at the ball!! Cinderella brings out a package of Queen Pamela's gluten-free brownie mix, and they realize she is the woman they have been looking for!"

LOL  .....the...adapted story of Cinderella :D

Hey, thanks guys. I finally figured out how to get my picture up!

thanks for the heads up!

Awww, c'mon celiac3270, take a walk on the wild side!!!!! ;)

With you surgery giving you the gift of a whole new life, I think you should celebrate with a new avatar to mark the occasion....... Mmmmmmmm, lets see.........

Well, I think we are all going to have to collectively put our heads together and come up with a new "theme" for celiac3270!!!!!

Let's see, you like hockey....... what is your favourite team? Rangers or Islanders... Do you have a favourite player?

Or how about a picture of the sun at sunrise, to signify the dawning of a new day for you....... B)

Do you have a favourite cartoon character?

How about your dream destination.... if you could go anywhere, where would it be?

The possibilities are endless!!!!!

Karen

celiac3270 Collaborator

There are endless possibilites, but about the ones suggested so far....I love hockey, but I'm so annoyed at the strike and as much as I love the sport, a hockey player wouldn't be a...role model to me...I want to do something more intellectual with my life :D . Uhh.....I don't have any dream destination...don't watch cartoons, just reality tv :D:lol: . I could get a pic. of a sunrise from the good old avatar gallery, but that would quickly become as dull as this one :P . I'll think of it and see if I can get a picture of myself or something....It'll be difficult to part with my good old waterfall, though :(

Congratulations, Mela :)

It's as easy as this:

Get a digital camera, take a picture of yourself, and upload it, ONLY 3 STEPS!!!!! please! :P

@rei.b,  I understand how frustrating starting a new way of eating can be.  I tried all sorts of gluten-free processed foods and just kept feeling worse.  My health didn't improve until I started the low histamine AIP diet.  It makes a big difference.   Gluten fits into opioid receptors in our bodies.  So, removing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms and reveals the underlying discomfort.  SIBO can cause digestive symptoms.  SIBO can prevent vitamins from being absorbed by the intestines.  Thiamine insufficiency causes Gastrointestinal Beriberi (bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation).  Thiamine is the B vitamin that runs out first because it can only be stored for two weeks.  We need more thiamine when we're sick or under emotional stress.  Gastric Beriberi is under recognised by doctors.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test is more accurate than a blood test for thiamine deficiency, but the best way to see if you're low in thiamine is to take it and look for health improvement.  Don't take Thiamine Mononitrate because the body can't utilize it well.  Try Benfotiamine.  Thiamine is water soluble, nontoxic and safe even at high doses.  I thought it was crazy, too, but simple vitamins and minerals are important.  The eight B vitamins work together, so a B Complex, Benfotiamine,  magnesium and Vitamin D really helped get my body to start healing, along with the AIP diet.  Once you heal, you add foods back in, so the AIP diet is worth doing for a few months. I do hope you'll consider the AIP diet and Benfotiamine.

Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅

So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.

I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
