Glutenized

I think I was glutenized this morning. I went to mcdonalds and ordered a sausage pattie and a egg. no bread at all. I even asked the manager if they put anything with wheat on the grill and they said no. I did have a non-fat mocha, I wonder if there is anything in the drink? I now have stomach cramps and bowel urgency. It hit maybe 20 minutes after I ate. Any thoughts?

I'd check out the non-fat mocha. Or that lying manager. I've given up on McDs.

Any time you eat at a fast food restaurant you should assume the risk. Even though a product may be considered gluten free, the risk for cross contamination is great.

I don't mangers would intentially lie to you about their proceedures.

Have you considered a dairy issues? Especially if you are new to the diet and have not healed. Or, if you have not healed ANY food, gluten free or not, could be an issue.

I don't think the manager would intentionally lie either, but it's certainly possible (and probable) they they don't understand how many things contain gluten. My best guess is that it was something in the drink, though. Everything at Macdonalds is processed and horrible for you. I do not recommend.

Same thing was happening to me. I called McDonalds Corporation myself and spoke with a rep that told me the things I was eating had no gluten in them. You have to think of all the other things that DO HAVE gluten in them such as the buns, breaded chicken, the wraps etc.

Sooner or later you will get glutened. It's a crap shoot at best. I stopped doing it because you just never know and I don't want anyone having that power of my health. They will never be as careful as you would. Most of the managers I have talked to don't even know what Celiac Disease is. You would think this would be a part of their training.

I actually have that kind of reaction to caffeine... and so does my mother. But as far as places that are easy to be accidentally glutened, I think McDonald's is around the top of the list.

Sorry you are not feeling well.

i usually only react that quickly to milk but it could be anything there. I actually have good luck with McDonald's when ordering double cheeseburgers with no bun. I have ordered the sausage egg OK also. But at any time in a restaurant, CC can happen.

I think the hardest part of "glutenization" is figuring out how to avoid repeat episodes... It's hard when you just have to eliminate everything that could have caused it even though some of those items could still be fine!

I looked online at the McD's cafe style drinks when they first came out, and I remember some of the ingredients being questionable. I think it was natural flavors and maybe unspecified food starch?

I agree with some of the other people who've replied- McD's is probably a great place to get CC'ed. With as sensitive as I am to gluten (maybe you aren't as much), I can't even chance fast food anymore. Except the occasional Wendy's frosty!

Good luck with finding out what caused your symptoms. I know I am especially sensitive to lactose-related symptoms after I get glutened. Coffee also can cause abdominal cramping. Have coffee or milk ever bothered you before? Do you drink them often?

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
