Gi Bleeding With Cc

I have been gluten free now for 7 years but still the occasional slip up. Now it only happens once or twice a year, thank goodness. However now when I get glutened I bleed. I got glutened a week or so ago and I was passing clots and mucous (sorry for the TMI) for 3 days. I called my GI doctors office for help and the woman who answered the phone told me 'to eat gluten free', DUH and wouldn't even give me an appointment to talk with the doctor about it.

How common is it to literally bleed when you get glutened? Does this happen to anyone else? Everytime it happens it seems to last longer, when I was first diagnosed I would only bleed for about 3 hours after the D stopped now it is 3 days. Does anyone know what I can do, other than worry that one day I will hemmorage.

I would really be concerned about this. Have you had a colonscopy recently??

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis twelve years ago and the hallmark symptoms are rectal bleeding and mucus. Your GI doctor should not take this lightly. Some Celiacs have UC and Celiac Disease. They should also be ruling out a possible bacterial infection. I would be searching for a new GI doctor if they don't seem to be concerned.

If I can help in any way, please feel free to contact me.

UC since 1997

No formal celiac Diagnosis..but my celiac Specialist is highly suspicious I have celiac due to my numerous symptoms (GI, neuro, weight loss).... family history of pancreactic cancer and Chrone's Disease. Truly Gluten Free since April 2009 (after my six month education).

I get severe bleeding, clots, mucous, occasional black stools after I've been glutened, but I also get these symptoms at random times when I know for certain that I have not been exposed to anything glutenous. I will generally bleed for weeks or months at a time, and then it will go away as mysteriously as it appeared. Every time I go to a new GI, they say, this is probably Crohn's--they do the blood tests that show low folate, they do the rectal exam to see that there is a presence of blood, they do the tests that show occult bleeding, and then they do a colonoscopy and find absolutely nothing wrong there and figure it's coming from the ilium. Unfortunately, every time I get a CT or barium X-ray, they are completely unable to visualize the ilium, and though they've tried capsule endoscopies, they cannot biopsy with a capsule endoscopy.

Rectal bleeding can be very serious and a sign of a worse condition. For me, it's become a norm, and I just live with it, but only because the doctors have done everything possible to find the source of the bleeding, and it doesn't seem to be an ulcer, cancer, etc. I would call the doctor again in hopes of getting a different receptionist or just say that you are having severe GI symptoms and you need to schedule an appointment. I'm sure the doctor wouldn't be as flippant or dismissive as his clearly uneducated receptionist would be about rectal bleeding.

Thanks for the replies. I just had a colonoscopy a month or so ago and they don't schedule follow-up appointments just say if I don't hear from them that everythings fine.

I think perhaps I should not have mentioned the glutening or that I am celiac to the receptionist and I will try to get another appointment just saying I am having GI bleeding. I am so tired and distrustful of doctors but I am glad others agree that I shouldn't ignore this. I never bled with a glutening until my last GI ordered a second gluten challenge, now it happens whenever I get glutened. My family wonders why I get so paranoid about CC but this is scarey when it happens especially since I live alone.

Did you get a copy of your Pathology report after your recent colonoscopy? Even if the doctor's report looked clean (when he actually examined you), the pathology report is what you really want to see and keep a copy of. Last year. my doctor's advised me that everything looked good on the day of my colonoscopy but the pathology report revealed my diagnosed condition.

Thanks for the reminder, I always tell others to do that too.....but didn't do it yet for myself. I am going to make sure I get copies of that and also of the blood work he had done before the test. I really do want to see the report on that polyp he removed also. I have been seriously braindrained the last month between hurting teeth, and the glutening and other junk going on. I will call his office tommorrow. Sometimes it seems I take better care of the others in my world than I do of myself, common for Moms I think.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
