Need Gluten & Dairy Free Protein/energy Bars

can anyone recommend energy bars that are completely free of dairy & gluten (soy would be nice too)

We have seen these at our local health food store:

trio bars(yummy)

bumblebars(look good)

larabars(i like, some dont)

kind bars

Larabars, Bumble Bars, thinkGreen, PranaBars and Kind bars are gluten free (some of these are also dairy free, but check carefully). Try your local Whole Foods store.

Personally, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Kind bars - they actually have whole nuts and large chunks of dried fruit in them - and they are crunchy! I'm not a fan of those weird gummy non-crunchy bars. I absolutely hated the Bumble Bars - one bite, needed to wash out my mouth with water. Larabars and pranaBars are ok (taste good, icky texture). I have a bunch of thinkGreens, but I haven't had one.

Dairy-free?

The PranaBar I have in front of me claims to be vegan.

The thinkGreen bar contains milk.

The Larabar in front of me is soy and dairy free, but I am not sure they all are. You're gonna have to check.

Kind bars vary. I don't have any right now, but I recall that some have dairy, some don't. I don't recall on the soy.

Kind and Lara bars are easily found in grocery/health stores in my area. Harry's (Whole Foods) carries Bumble Bars, Mrs. Mays and a few others. I prefer Kind Bars hands down. Some of them do have soy so if that's an issue for you you'll need to read the labels.

You can also make your own! I make these Open Original Shared Linkthat Bernice Mast posted on Gluten Free examiner, and they are not only super tasty, but they're very simple to make. I've modified her recipe just a bit, adding some toasted, unsweetened coconut, cinnamon and a pinch of salt. I usually keep one of these stashed in my bag, for whenever I need an easy snack, or if I'm stranded somewhere and am unsure of whether there's safe food nearby.

you can buy them online. i just happen to live about a half mile from the manufacturing plant/store :P

      Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

      Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

      Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

      It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
