Hello,

I was dx with celiac 3 years ago, and have done well on the diet. However, I suddenly have developed reflux symptoms, seemingly out of the blue. I have read that GERD often goes with celiac, but has anyone ever developed it fairly suddenly?

About 4 years after my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac, she developed severe GERD symptoms. She was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. EE was just given a standardized medical code in October 2008. We will have to wait and see if it will be proven to have a correlation to Celiac. It seems there are a lot of diagnoses and complaints of GERD along with Celiac and other issues. (i.e. Barrett's Esophagas) My opinion, an auto-immune response to gluten causes damage and it may be happening before the gluten is in the small intestine. I would consult a specialist and determine any treatment plan for the GERD symptoms.

I only had it before not after. If I have any symptoms start to creep up, I know I've eaten something I'm sensitive too, like too many complex carbs.

My son developed GERD suddenly. That is how he was diagnosed with celiac. Now it has come back because he started running. We are going to make some changes to his diet to see if we can get rid of it again.

      Burning Sensation in the small intestine

      I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress...

      My journey is it gluten or fiber?

      You should be fine. You may start feeling better within a few days. Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours. Did you get the NeuroMag or another magnesium supplement?

      Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

      Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.
