Pamela's Cheesecake

Just got the email from Pamelas Products. They have these scrumptious looking cheesecakes, Raspberry chocolate, hazelnut, chocolate with fudge, NY style. But the price is $49.51 through Amazon--way out of my budget for a cake. :(

Why would they have them priced so high? I won't even buy the cake from QVC that costs over $40 and it was huge.

8 raspberry chocolate, 3 inch size, will cost about $64. Pricey, but these would make a very nice wedding dessert, while the rest of the guests eat something similar with wheat. And I guess this isn't much more than a dessert at a restaurant....

See....I'm justifying the cost because they look sooooo good.

Do you need these already prepared? Cheescake recipes have been easier to convert to gluten free. (I would use the Pamela's cookies.) :P

I agree. In many cheesecake recipes, the only gluten is in the crust. Gluten free cookies of almost any type could be used. I think I've seen the suggestion to just press coconut into a pan and toast it to make a crust for cheesecake. I've used gluten free ginger snaps and gluten-free shortbread cookies. My attempt with the coconut was less successful cosmetically but still tasted good.

We bake things like that without a crust at all. I use small custard cups and a water bath to keep it tender and moist. That said, I never liked pie crust in my gluten eating days anyway so it wasn't a big change for us.

When you have 4 in the family that need to be gluten-free, there is a lot of baking and cooking going on.

Sometimes it's just plain nice to buy something already made. I'm just getting tired of baking--I'm a cook. It's always been a lifetime motto for me that you can be either a good cook or a good baker, but not both.

I say this as I'm baking bread, cooking chili and making a meatloaf with scalloped potatoes. :P

I agree with you at some point or some days we just need a break from baking & cooking! I cook for 8 most days , 4 gluten-free & the others usually also eat gluten-free depending on what is being prepared... I'm the only one who cooks so I understand!!!!!

Pamela's cheesecakes are wonderful so is Moondance Cheesecakes. Both about the same pricing only you can buy a single serving from Moondance for $3.95!Still very pricey. I usually make my own everything but as time goes on I find I want as much as I can afford gluten-free ready made! But it has to be the best....I still do school lunches, & bake quite a lot.....

I think we all miss the convienent factor ......

I still remeber getting Everybody Eats rolls for a Christmas present!!! I could have pigged out & eaten all 12 rolls at once I was so happy but I ate one at a time.... It was the first roll I enjoyed... In fact I even cried a little! gluten-free gets better every day....

Order a cheesecake for a special event in your life,,,, you deserve it!!!!!

I thought for sure they must give you more than one for that price, maybe a case of 3. But I checked and it was just one. Shocking! They must not be going for economy of scale with the big ones. Even the case of 8 of the three inchers for $63.84 which basically works out to $8 each is a bit shocking.

I agree with splurging and being able to just order something. Sometimes after all the cooking and baking I'm just too tired to enjoy eating it.

So I make a double batch and freeze when I can to get instant gratification of a nice treat. :D

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
