Hi all, Susan here, new to this. I am having trouble using the search engine. So I have some questions, maybe you can help me

Is there a chewing gum I can have?

what about store bought sausage? or hot dogs?

Luncheon meats?

How about Ensure - high protein?

Is "Glide" floss okay (mint)

tylenol?

bayer aspirin?

non-fat milk? do they use something with gluten to strip out the fat?

That's all I can think of for now. Thanks

P.S. thanks for the list of what not to eat! and thanks for the meds manufacturer sheet - both very helpful

Hello and welcome,

I am from Canada, so some things are different between Canada and the U.S.

I by Grimm's or Freybe's meats as they are specifically labelled gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link They carry weiners, lunch meats, sausage, pepperoni sticks, etc :)

Ensure is also gluten-free: Open Original Shared Link

All Tylenol products in Canada are gluten-free, I imagine the U.S. is the same, but I would search their website or call them to confirm.

White milk is gluten-free. Some flavoured milks might contain gluten so you want to read ingredients carefully and check the company websites when in doubt.

When in doubt try going to the manufacturer's website and searching for product information. Some companies now list what items are gluten-free. If not, email or call them to find out. This forum is an excellent source of informatino too :)

All the best,

Jillian

Hi Susan.

All wrigleys products are safe, including the candy.

Tylenol (the actual brand, not store brand) is safe. So is Bayer aspirin.

Glide is safe too, but I use the regular one.

For lunchmeats and hotdogs, you must read the label or call companies. Many are safe.

Non-fat milk is safe too.

The only one I edon't know about is ensure. Read the labels or call the company.

Good luck!

Kraft (which includes Oscar Mayer and Nabisco) has good labeling practices. According to their website, they will clearly list any gluten ingredients, and they seem to have a decent understanding of celiac disease.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
