2 Year Old With Negative Test-Still Celiacs?

If anyone could give me some advice from personal experience that would be great. I have two sisters that are most likely celiac but not diagnosed yet and two nephews that are celiac. My son was constipated from birth and removing milk from his diet fixed that problem. After that he started to experience crumbly, sand like stool on and off so we tested him for celiac which was negative. That is actually how I found this forum was googling "crumbly sandy poop".

We put off his pooping issues to teething. Now all of his teeth are in and the last few weeks he has had a lot of these crumbly type poops with diarrhea and a lot of gas. We tested him again for celiac and again negative. His stool has always had an off smell to it as well.Doctors always blame it in teething or something else. We are seeing a pediatrician in a couple weeks. Our faith in doctors is an an all time low with our experiences and experiences of family and friends. Has anyone had their child experience symptoms of celiac, test negative for it and then eventually test positive? Can you have Celiac and test negative for it? If so is there another test that will show it if the standard test is negative? If so can you please let me know the name of the test. Also our local Celiac chapter endorses the home test and this is what we have tested our two year old son with. Does anyone have any experience with this test. Any other comments or suggestions? Otherwise our son has been very healthy, growing normally, although if the runs and constant pooping keeps up the way it has been the last few weeks I am concerned it could effect his weight gain.

False negatives are not uncommon especially in children under the age of 4. You could try Enterolab stool testing. They test stool and the testing is done by you sending in a sample. You could also try the diet and see if it helps.

Yes, I would also suggest that you try the diet for a couple of months. But it is important that you be 100% diligent with the diet. This place can be very helpful to you. With your strong family history, it would make sense that gluten may be an issue.

As mentioned, testing for children under the age of five is highly unreliable.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
