Can anyone tell me where and what the cost might be to have Tapioca flour, Corn Starch, Potato Flour and other gluten-free mixes tested for Gluten. My stepson has behavioral issues (to say the least) and I am pretty sure he has contaminated my food sources. He resents his mother having to cook gluten-free for me although he doesn

If you suspect the items have been tampered with please discard them. I don't know how long you have been gluten free but if you are early on you may still be healing, you could be reacting to CC in the kitchen or from other sources but to be on the safe side I would toss them. The day you throw them out it might be a good idea to put your mixes or open containers into a locked cupboard or box. Just to be on the safe side. It also would be a really good idea to seek some therapy for your family. If he is really doing this it needs to be addressed in a nonconfrontational manner. If he is lashing out like that he is hurting and the issues behind it need to be addressed with kindness and understanding.

Well said Ravenwood.

I haven't seen ads for the gluten stick tests lately. They do exist, but I can't tell you how reliable they are.

 Good Luck!

Bring it up privately with the therapist. It is not unusual for the counselor to talk to family members seperately at times and maybe they will have some ideas.

As a therapist, I agree. Tell the therapist you're not sure, and you don't want him/her telling your stepson of your suspicions. Whether he's doing it or not, the fact that you suspect he's doing it means your family would definately benefit from some counseling.

Keep your mind open to other sources of gluten contamination. There are so many possibilities which wouldn't include your stepson doing it on purpose. We weren't able to remain healthy until we made our whole household gluten free and the non gluten free members were doing their very best not to contaminate the celiac members.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
