Diarhea-how Long Did It Last?

My son has done SO much better on a gluten free diet. He improved dramatically and still is. He has been gluten free for 5 weeks, but 2 weeks ago he had some gluten. Anyway, I am curious if any of your kids had diarhea sometimes out of the blue once on the diet. He will have completely normal bowel movements and then bam, out of nowhere he will seem to not want to eat as well and have diarrhea for a couple of days. I just want to know if maybe he is allergic to something else too? He had failure to thrive, but is almost ready to walk now that he has been gluten-free for 5 weeks, saying all sorts of new words, happier, sleeping less etc. I just hate it when he seems to have days where he doesn't eat well, seems gassy and diarhea.

Two weeks into the diet he had completely normal stools for days. I was so thrilled. The diarhea he has now sometimes isn't the same as before he went gluten-free. It used to be at least 6 times a day, make his bottom hurt and foul smelling with undigested food. THis is different. He drinks soy formula and eats tons of soy yogurt. Also though, my concerns with allergies are related to eggs and maybe peanut butter and I know milk bothers him.

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Monica

How old? My 5 year old daughter, who does not have celiac, has occasional loose stools, without being sick. I think its normal occasionally. It may take some time for your sons stomach to heal, and in that time he may be sensitive to other products.

I know a boy who was "lactose intolerant" he later found out he had celiac, and after 6 months gluten-free he could eat icecream again without a problem. It was celiac the whole time, and his stomach healed and no longer had a problem with lactose.

GOOD LUCK.

Something to think about is could it be all the soy. My son has Celiac and is also allergic to soy something we had no clue about until a blood test.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
