Casein Intolerant Or Gluten Intolerant

Hi

I did a food intoleant test recently after struggling from many GI problems and cromic skin problems for years. (test is based on IgG ELISA technology)

the results from my test show casien on top of my elevated food list Casien is at 398(with normall equal to or less than 24) along with cow milk at 240 and other milks all above 200.

Here is the confusing part Wheat is also elevated at 54, rye flour 51 buckwheat 118(buckwheat is gluten free??) and i have no reaction to malt, wheat bran and barley.

very confused I paid a lot for this test any help would be very appriciated.

I would eliminate both along with the other items you showed problems with. It is not unusual for us to be intolerant to gluten and casien. After you heal you could challenge them with the other items, one at a time, in pure form, for a week and see if you are having any reaction. Do note that reactions are not always gut reactions with gluten. Some of us have more neuro impact and the challenge might show that type of reaction ie. depression, anxiety, fatigue, brain fog.

IgG blood tests are notoriously inaccurate for food allergies. Allergists use them as a guideline for what foods to try with an elimination diet. An IgG reaction does not necessarily mean you can't tolerate a food. Also, unless you are IgA deficient it's not even the right test for gluten intolerance. Gluten sensitivity is IgA mediated. That's why you're not seeing much with the gluten-containing grains.

What you might try for better answers is to eliminate gluten, casein, and everything that came up positive on your IgG test for at least two weeks. Then add back the non-gluten, non-casein foods one at a time, leaving a few days between tests. If you have a real allergy, you will have a reaction fairly fast.

For the gluten and casein intolerances, you have to leave more time. It's a slow reaction and your body can take months to recover. The only way to be sure with those is to go off them for a few months, and then challenge.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
