Herbal Clear Deoderant

I'm on a mission to find some aluminum-free deodorant that lasts longer than an hour. <_<

Has anyone tried Herbal Clear or know if it's any good? I can't find any contact info for the company online.

The only questionable ingredient it has is tocopherol acetate, (which I know is debatable).

I can't speak to the Herbal Clear since I've never used it but I use Thai Crystal. I've been using it for several years now and love it. There are no ingredients, it's just mineral salts. I get it at Whole Foods, and it lasts for months.

Thanks, Patti! Does it work well at controlling odor? It seems like every one I've tried will be ok for about an hour and then it gives out, so I'm constantly reapplying. (Perspiration isn't really an issue for me.)

For me, it really does...I never re-apply it during the day, just after my shower in the morning. I don't know if brands vary, this is the only one I've used.

Hi!

I use Tom's of Maine Calendula or Honeysuckle Rose and have for years with no problems. I am pretty certain there's no aluminum in there. I don't sweat a ton (unless I'm having a hot flash and then I "glow"...right.)but it works well. Although I really like the sound of Patti's Thai Crystal and I may look for that!

Good luck!

I've had no luck with the Thai crystal for odor prevention. Maybe I sweat it off too quickly or something. The Tom's of Maine Honeysuckle Rose smells great but seems to give out on me after a couple of hours if it's hot and humid. It's fine in cooler weather so I might go back to that in the fall. I tried Adidas cotton-tech deodorant (no aluminum) and that worked great for odor prevention but I developed an allergic rash to it after about four days. :( I just purchased the Herbal Clear last weekend but haven't tried it yet- I'm a little afraid to try it on a workday so I'm back to the nasty antiperspirant. I too am interested to hear if anyone else has had luck with it (or anything else I haven't tried).

I've tried Toms, Desert Essence, and Aubrey Organics E Plus High C... they just don't seem to last as long in the warmer months. The best so far that I have tried is the Adidas Cotton-Tech, but it's really hard to find around here. (I'm wondering if they've discontinued it.)

It was discontinued for a bit, but it's back on the market. I think i heard that Walgreen's is carrying it. I wish I wasn't allergic to something in it, that stuff really did work the best. :(

I'm here to say, I have had deodorant problems for YEARS! I'll use something a while and then it will quit working. Or, if I am pregnant, I can NOT stand the smell of ANY deodorant. So I try all the natural ones and NONE of them work at all. I felt like the smelliest woman on earth. But recently a friend told me about the deodorant crystals. I didn't want to buy one because I KNEW it wouldn't work. After 2 trips to the store to look at it, I finally bought one. First I looked at a lot of reviews online, so I knew how to use it. You have to wet it and rub it ALL AROUND your underarm for at least 20 or 30 times. Not just right in the middle of your pit, but ALL OVER to make a big wide seal! Well, it's a freakin MIRACLE!!!! I have NO ODOR AT ALL. I still can NOT BELIEVE this thing works. It will even last more than one day and that is just insane!! I have told my entire family and everyone I know about it. And I am a girl who's armpits sweat! So when someone says it doesn't work I just automatically think they aren't doing it right, LOL. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the deodorant crystal. I just smell like ME now, no funky perfumy crap! Just make sure you do it right. Really rub it on, all over, for a WHILE. I just count to 30 slowly while I'm putting it on.

Yes! And another thing I love about it is that it doesn't interact with your sweat and cause discoloring under the arms of white tops. Nor do I have to worry about white flakes when I wear black, sleevless tops/tank dresses. B)

I'm thinking that to get it to work I'm going to have to smear it pretty much all the way over my shoulder and back around. :P I'll have to try the count-to-30 trick. I haven't had the heart to throw it out yet, especially since it's one of the few things that hasn't made me break out in a rash (along with Suave powder scent antiperspirant and Tom's regular deodorant- not the long-lasting stuff, I still have rash scars from that one).

I tried the Herbal Clear this morning and was rubbing on the Suave stuff before lunch so as not to freak out my coworkers, but then again it's in the low 90s with humidity in the 80% range today. Herbal Clear smells nice (better than Tom's after applied) but it just didn't work for more than a couple of hours in this weather. I cannot wait for fall.

Seriously, try it again! Get it wet and if it stops moving easily, get it wet again. You want it to slide all around. I go from way up high, like a couple inches above my underarm, to a couple inches below it and then from almost going around the edge to my back, LOL, and all the way to the inner edge. I usually have to re-wet the stick a couple times when it stops moving easily.

Okay, so I tried the count-to-30 method. And i have to say that it appears to be working, and it's been a hot, humid, sweaty, stressful morning. Nowhere on the packaging did it say to apply it that thoroughly, so I wonder how many other people are trying this and giving up because they're not getting adequate coverage. I do have to say that the feeling of sweating is something I'm not used to, and it's a bit strange. I know it's better for me if my pores can breathe, but it's still an odd sensation. I keep expecting a smelly mess and it really doesn't smell.

Thank you for sharing the secret to this stuff. :)

Oh good, I'm glad it's working! I just went to get mine and mine is "Crystalux Crystal Stick Deodorant". The instructions say "Apply to clean moist skin or wet the top of the crystal stick and apply. Rub 20 to 30 times under each arm". It also says "guaranteed to last 1 year". I haven't had any problems with sweating but I live in a dry climate so that may be why. I know once or twice I've felt a tiny bit of wetness but it wasn't smelly so I was happy!! For the most part I stay pretty dry tho.

I've got the French Transit Crystal Stick Body Deodorant (no directions other than "wet crystal and apply to underarms"). It seems to work for me about 75% of the time. I can't really figure out why it fails when it does. The AC was out in my building yesterday morning (we've had temps in the high 80s/low 90s with humidity ranging from 60-90% all week) and I had no problems. However, it failed this morning even in AC. I've been keeping the Herbal Clear and a small bottle of Purell in my purse for backups and between those and the crystal stick I've been able to dump the antiperspirant.

For the OP- I'm liking the Herbal Clear. It smells great and doesn't irritate my skin at all. I used it this afternoon after the crystal failed and it worked well even during my run (heat index of 92, insane sweating).

I bought Thai Crystal last week and have been using it for the past few days. I can definitely tell a difference, but still need to reapply. Maybe I need to count to 50.

:D I run it up and down at least 30 times--more if I'm gonna be in the heat or expect to be nervous. Be sure to completely cover the entire underarm area.

Now, every day when I apply mine, I think of this thread

Week 2 on Thai Crystal, and it is really growing on me - I don't smell at all! Consider me a true convert!

I'm still using the crystal too! It did fail on me finally, about 2 or 3 times just in the past 7 to 10 days!! I cannot figure out why tho! I haven't done anything differently. So, the past 2 days I've tried rubbing harder, lol. I guess I'll see if that fixes it. I still like it and it works almost all of the time, I'm not sure what the deal was those days and it's funny that it also happened to someone else. Hope I can figure it out, or I'll be counting to 50 too! LOL. Sure works out those arm muscles :)

Weird, isn't it? I decided I didn't want to try and guess which days would be good days so I've taken to layering the crystal on first, letting it dry, then adding a layer of Herbal Clear. On me, neither works great alone but the combo gets me through the work day with no worries (and the Herbal Clear smells nice).

I refused to do the gluten challenge for a long time because I knew how sick I would be: I have always had and still have positive antibodies and have so many symptoms my  GI was 💯 sure I would have a positive biopsy. I didn’t want to make myself sick to get a negative biopsy and be more confused by all this.  He couldn’t guarantee me a negative biopsy meant no celiac bc there may not be damage yet or it’s possible to miss biopsies where there’s damage but he was so sure and convinced me I needed that biopsy I went back on gluten. It was a terrible experience! I took pictures of the bloating and swelling and weight gain during the challenge. I gained 9 pounds, looked pregnant, was in pain , couldn’t work or function without long naps and the brain fog was debilitating. And in the end he didn’t get a positive biopsy… so I wish I had never wasted my time or health going through it. I haven’t been truly straightened  out since and I am currently battling a shingles infection at 43 and I can’t help but wonder if the stress I put my body under to try and get an official diagnosis has caused all this. Best of luck to you - whatever you decide. It’s not a fun thing to go through and I still don’t have the answers I was looking for

It's completely understandable to struggle with the gluten challenge, especially when it impacts your health and studies so significantly. Your experience of feeling dramatically better without gluten is a powerful clue, whether it points to celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. It's very wise of you and your doctor to pause the challenge until your holidays, prioritizing your immediate well-being and exams. To answer your questions, yes, it is possible for blood tests to be negative initially and become positive later as the disease progresses, which is why the biopsy remains the gold standard. Many, many people find the gluten challenge incredibly difficult due to the return of debilitating symptoms, so you are certainly not alone in that struggle. Wishing you the best for your exams and for obtaining clearer answers when you're able to proceed.
    • Scott Adams
It's smart that you're seeing the gastroenterologist tomorrow. While it's possible this is a severe and persistent inflammatory reaction to gluten, the fact that the pain is movement-dependent and localized with tenderness is important for your specialist to hear. It could indeed be significant inflammation, but it's also worth ruling out other overlapping issues that can affect those with celiac disease. Is it possible you got some gluten in your diet somehow? This could be a possible trigger. Hopefully, tomorrow's appointment will provide clearer answers and a path to relief so you can get back to your lectures and enjoy your weekend. Wishing you all the best for the consultation.

What exactly are you taking from doterra?
    • Xravith
Hello, I'm back with a second post. The first time I wrote, I mentioned the possibility that my symptoms were related to gluten. I did a genetic test in which I resulted to have the predisposition, but the results of my blood test were all negative without IgA deficiency. My doctor suggested that it was necessary to do a biopsy to rule out Celiac Disease. However, he said, because of my family history and my symptoms were strongly related to gluten, it was very possible that my Celiac Disease is developing and my antibodies may become positive in the future.  I tried to continue the gluten challenge for the biopsy, around 2-3 g of gluten per day, but it was enough to make me feel worse each passing day. I started developing anemia and other mild nutritional deficiencies, and it was really affecting my daily life. I'm a student and exams are coming up, so my doctor suggests me to strictly remove gluten until I feel better so I could study without problems until I could do the gluten challenge when I come back home for holidays. Since going gluten free, I feel like a completely different person. My mind is clearer, I have no stomach pain during the day, and even my nails improved within just two weeks. It could also be Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity, but of course I’ll need the biopsy to know for sure. I was wondering, has anyone else had negative blood tests at first and later tested positive? And has anyone struggled with the gluten challenge because of symptoms?
