I wanted to pass this info along: I'm also a member of the Delphi forum board, and several members noticed that Frosty's are no longer on Wendy's gluten-free list. After a few of them called, Wendy's is now saying that their Frosty's are NOT gluten-free because there is apparently malt in them and/or suspicious flavorings.

*Sigh* And I loved my Frosty's....

no wonder my stomach hurt more than ever on Saturday when I had a frosty driving home!!!! I thought it was just me being sensitive to dairy!!!

Have they always had malt or did they just change the ingredients? I have been eating frosty's for a year now without any problem. If they never changed the ingredients then I would have to think they are gluten-free since I am extremely sensitive to gluten???? :(

Ya know my daughter and I both had a Frosty on Sat. and we've both been feeling ill ever since. That REALLY bites.

I just checked the website too and you are right it's not on there. So... I called and left a message at their Customer Service number.

Please, as many people as possible call them and let them know we are concerned and disappointed.

I know...how pointless. Let's add gluten to Malt-o-meal cereal, let's throw in some malt flavoring for the Wendy's frosty...I'm sure it'll boost sales if you throw in that extra bit of malt as a selling point <_< [sarcastic]

According to the people on the Delphi board, who have spoken to representatives at Wendy's, they haven't changed their Frosty recipe in 30 years....so that means they have *always* had gluten--nice of them, huh? They say that it is a malt CC issue...but malt is always made with barley, right?

Argh! So frustrating--and they won't come out and say that Frosty's have always had gluten in them, but if it's a malt issue, then that's what the problem is. This is why I stay away from fast food places--and I definitely will not patronize Wendy's again, and I'll tell my non-gluten-free family to do the same!

Now I'm concerned about the other stuff I eat there if it really is the case that they have never been gluten-free. <_<

I was told by Wendy's last year that the Frosty's were gluten free....so I think they would have had to be gluten free at some point. I think I will call them again...they need to just tell everyone 1 thing and not confuse us all.

I'm putting in a call to Wendy's too. They can't mess with people like this. That's just plain ole mean. :angry:

On their website in their nutrition guide these are the ingredients:

Milk,sugar,cream,corn syrup solids, whey, nonfat milk solids,cocoa(NOT MALT :D )

Dextrose, guar gum, cellulose gum, mono and diglycerides,carrageenan, calcium sulfate, disodium phosphate,vitamin a plamitate, natural and artificial flavors

If they have not changed their ingredients then this is still gluten free...I will have to call and ask about it now..

I have a hard time believing that the frostys are not gluten free and never were. I have been gluten-free for a year and a half now and my last endoscopy showed that my intestines were completely back to normal (they were as flat as can be when I was diagnosed). Considering the fact that I have been eating frostys this whole time being gluten-free (on an average of once a week) I am going to have to say that they are gluten-free. That is just my two cents. If they haven't changed the ingredients then I am going to continue to eat it.

UPDATE on Frosty's

Bad news everyone....I would stay away from Frosty's officially now if I were you. These are not safe until otherwise told by the company

June 9, 2005:

Wendy's Restaurants called us back today in response to a followup call we placed to them yesterday. They're now saying that they don't know the source of the malt ingredient in their Frosty Drink and they don't know why we were told what we were (see June 7). They are researching this item, but aren't sure they'll be able to find out if it's gluten free as the ingredient info may be proprietary. However, the Frosty drink HAS been taken off their gluten free list.

June 7, 2005:

Wendy's Restaurants has removed its Frosty Drinks from their gluten free list. According to the company, the source of the malt is corn. However, there is possible cross contamination because the corn can come into contact with other grains during manufacturing.

Something is definitely in those Frosty's. I stopped eating them along time ago cause I get an immediate reaction from them as if I ate barley. I had read that they were gluten free then I bought one the other day and I felt the same way. I know there is something in them and my guess its in the malt.

I used to eat at Wendy's all the time before I found out I had celiac disease. I visited their website also to see what was gluten-free, and they had chili listed. I was wondering about this, since I always made chili at home with a seasoning mix that definately was not gluten-free. Anyone know (or care) if it is safe? I wish they would make their fries separate from their nuggets- I did enjoy those.

Most Wendy's do have separate fryers for the fries. You just have to ask.

Making chili without using a mix with gluten is very easy to do. Wendy's chili is indeed gluten-free.

I make wonderful gluten-free chili ~ VERY easy. :)

Just cook ground beef, green peppers & onion together. Drain. Add 2 Tbls. chili powder, 1 tsp. salt, garlic & bay leaves. 28 oz can crushed tomatoes & 15 oz can tomatoe sauce. Then I add Bush's baked beans, drained. It is best if you can simmer it for a few hours. :) Yummy and easy!! AND gluten-free.

      I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I got my liver test last month and it was in normal range. Two years ago I did have a vitamin D deficiency but I'm know taking vitamin D3 pills. Last month I got my vitamin D checked and it was in normal range. I don't believe I've had my choline checked. However, I do drink almond milk eat Greek yogurt on a daily...

      If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly...

Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.
