Funny But Sad

Recently we went with a large group to a Chinese restaurant. I was very leery of eating there, but figured I could always eat later if I felt the risk was too high.

On the menu was, I kid you not, "deep fried gluten, tastes like meat". Warning!!! Red flag!!!

When I asked the proprietor what on the menu would be safe for me to eat, he smiled and said, "anything, we fix!" :o

I had steamed rice and tea, we ate elsewhere later.

That is funny! And I think I would have had only the rice as well. I don't have gluten issues but I am allergic to oysters.

One thing I've found that is usually a safe bet for a snack when we are out is a side of steamed rice from one of the many Teriyaki places around here. We're in the Seattle area and it's a toss up whether there are more coffee places or those.

But what do you think they put in the rice one time? A container of soy sauce! I was worried that it might have spilled or there was some on the outside of the container or something. Luckily it turned out okay though.

Gross! How about a barley sandwich on whole wheat!!!!!!! With an ambulance on the side.

I found a tiny can of 'spicy fried gluten' in a Chinese supermarket just after I went gluten free. Yuk... but for some reason, I take a perverse pleasure in displaying it on a bookcase :)

That's really funny. I think I might have even skipped the rice.

It was probably seitan. In the flesh!

You might enjoy this Youtube video of washing flour to separate the gluten and starch. Smells like bacon! I think they use the same process when making seitan, or fried/boiled spicy gluten.

And this sweet young man made a musical version. Don't give up watching until the star of the show pops in.

And this one is just a review of one companies seitan products. Ewww, lovely stuff...

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
