Is Anybody Using Gelatin?

Apache

I read that gelatin is excellent for intestinal tract healing and can also alleviate sensitivities when taken with food. Gelatin can be used in either a powdered form or from meat stock. I want to use meat stock at home, but when I'm away I think it would be more convenient to used powdered gelatin. The problem is that I can't find out how much powdered gelatin you are supposed to use when taking it with meals. Can anybody please tell me how much to use?

Thanks.

Some gelatin has msg in it, and that is probably what they are having a reaction to. Gelatin made from meat stock is very healthy. All you have to do is simmer some bones in water for about four hours. The above article also states that powdered gelatin is also good. I actually read a post from someone in another forum that stated all of his food intolerance syptoms disappeared when he began eating homemade "jell-o" with all of his meals.

Gelatin is usually rendered from meat, and contains protein from that source.

A fundamental component of all protein is glutamic acid. It is one of twenty amino acids that make up proteins. When broken out of the protein chains, it combines with sodium to form monosodium glutamate (MSG). If you eat and digest anything containing protein, you are ingesting some amount of MSG.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
