Hello I'm a bit confused. I have had stomach problems all of my life and after several different doctors telling me that I have IBS I've given gluten free a chance. My allergy doctor did the celiac test on me and my Iga was 45 my Igm was 43 and Igg was 915. Now my new gastro doctor put me back on wheat and re tested me the Iga was 53 and the Igm was 46. What does this mean? I'm still on wheat he is doing the upper GI test on the 22nd of November. Does this sound like Celiac??? Help please

Hi!

On your tests, did you recieve copies of them or just the numbers? If you have copies, there are reference ranges on them. That will help to determine your results.

They are just the number but they are lower than what they should be

Raw numbers are impossible to interpret unless you know the ranges that the lab uses. Also, was your IgA a total serum IGA? You really need to get a copy of your test results - something you should always do anyway, because doctors often miss things, and that way you have a total history of what your test results have been. :)

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
