Funny You Don't Look Sick?

Met some friends for dinner at Chili's last night. Two I work with and 1 I hadn't seen in 3 years. I try to keep my medical issues low key because no one is interested in my Colitis, Remicade issues, upcoming knee surgery, GERD, and all my other stuff. So when asked how my health was, I answered, "Not great, but I am dealing with things day by day." One of the friends I work with said, "Didn't you have your chemo on Friday?" I said, "Yes I did." Then she said "Funny you don't look sick?"

No one knows or understands. When they brought the bowl of chips and salsa and I didn't take any, the three "friends" chided me for not eating them. I told them this isn't a diet that you can cheat on like a calorie counting diet, but if I eat the chips and salsa, I will get sick. Again I heard, "sheesh, a couple of chips couldn't hurt you." They spent the next bit of time telling me how delicious the salsa and chips were and waving them in front of my nose.. *sigh*.

Wanna hear the saddest thing? One has a husband who has Diabetes, one's husband died within a week of finding out he had cancer, and one is a nurse. All of them are well into their 50s....

So much for dining out with unsympathetic "friends".

When you eat in the school cafeteria with 6 th graders, what do you expect? I guess you have to find friends your own age. ;)

Actually, if you are going through Chemo, the comment that you don't look sick is a compliment. I am flabbergasted that with Chemo, they weren't more sensitive.

I usually get the"Oh, that's right! Sorry!" when I say I can't eat something. This is from people I don't see everyday. I don't mind that.

I'll meet you at PF Changs for lunch. We can order things off the gluten-free menu and share. :)

The chemo I am taking is Remicade with lots of drugs thrown in at each session. heavy doses of Prednisone, lots of bendryl, double Venofer, B12.

I haven't tried PF Changs yet. Do you live in north Dallas?

No. Actually, I live in Kansas City. My BIL/SIL live in Plano. He is starting a "healthy fast casual" restuarant in Plano. Looking into the gluten-free certification for restuarants. Should open in December. I'll let everyone know when it does.

I really like PF Changs. I feel safe eating there. One of the owners has a daughter (?) with Celiac.

Nor_TX I'm sorry your coworkers are so insensitive!

I DO live in north Dallas, so if you ever want to go grab lunch or something, just holler.

I don't participate on the boards here much anymore but I do still lurk.

Kareng - please do let us know about the new restaurant! I would frequent it for sure!

Actually, I have never been to a PF Chang's either! LOL Been dying to try it, but the hubby isn't fond of the place, so I've never been.

We should go!

The restuarant is going in the old Pizza Inn (being re-done) at Park & Midway.

They have just started (Monday) looking into what it will take to do gluten-free. I hope its not too discouraging.

If I lived in Texas I'd meet you for lunch too! No chiding, teasing or guilt trips!

We have a lot in common, I have arthritis and colitis too. I was on methotrexate (chemo) for years and the side effects were awful. So glad they came out with new meds. How do you like the Remicade?

I hope not too! Please let them know that if they need any help, I would be willing - whether it be just ideas or actual labor in getting the place set up!

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?
    • Fayeb23
Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.

To evaluate the TTG antibody result we’d need to know the normal range for that lab.  Labs don’t all use the same units.  However, based on any normal ranges that I’ve seen and the listed result being greater than a number rather than a specific number, I’d say yes, that is high! Higher than the range where the test can give a quantitative result. You got good advice not to change your diet yet.  If you went gluten free your intestines would start to heal, confusing any further testing,
