Healthy Pet P-Pod Clumping Cat Litter-- Anyone Know If It"s gluten-free?

Fresh Step is messing with my breathing (and the kitty's), so I've been trying to find a hypoallergenic kitty litter, preferably one that won't kill me. Tried World's Best (corn) but the Monkey just kept trying to eat it. Healthy Pet is actually starting to work out, but as they say it's all from vegetable sources (but won't say which) I'm more than a little nervous. They have yet to answer my email. Any insight?

No reply yet, but further Internet searches indicate that the company makes all their products from reclaimed wood fibers. So most likely it's gluten-free (knock on wood).

We have been using the silica cat litter (Mimi which is available only at w@lma@rt apparently) and really prefer it to any of the clay ones because of the dust issue. Well, also the litter box is in our only bathroom and the clumping litter that is tracked out of the box turns to cement if it gets wet - which happens when anyone takes a shower.

I am not familiar with that litter. I currently use the stuff that Costco sells in the green jug. It's the clumping kind. Maui made a huge mess with the silica kind. The first one I tried was in little balls. Kind to the feet but it rolled all over the place when she kicked it. Then I tried the kind that was very sharp. Must have killed her little feet! I know it killed mine. She kicked that all over too and it was pretty smelly.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
