Bloated Like Crazy

Hello,

I have been on the gluten-free diet for 7 years now, so I am very experienced with being a Celiac. I have been able to deal with a lot of problems that have linked to Celiac disease in the past such as joint, muscle, ADD..and other related issues yet the one I have not been able to fixed is my constant state of being bloated. The only time my stomach is not extrememly bloated is when I wake up in the morning because I have not eaten anything in a while. Can someone possibly reccomend some over the counter medication or natural remedies that will help with this? I eat very healthy and do not cheat at all, plus I am very good with staying away from cross contamination. I am only a senior in high school and I would love to have this icky part of my fixed to advoid/limit the malnurished look in the future.

Thanks : )

It sounds like you have another food intolerance lurking in there somewhere.

Or a Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. I was bloated for a bit after diagnosis last fall and did a SIBO test and that's what it was. Took antibiotics and probiotics for a few weeks. Also I have taken out alot of other grains from my diet even though they are gluten free. The more I read about diets and humans the more I'm realizing that perhaps the Food Pyramid is all wrong and we really shouldn't be eating as much as we (Americans) do. I feel so much better when I eat Paleo. When I get a craving for carbs I have a bit, but feel so much better with so much of it out of my system.

But try a SIBO test first - that might just be the problem.

Thank you guys :) I will take these ideas to the doctor on my next visit. Thank you for all of your help!

Agree - it's probably another intolerance. That's why I continued to have symptoms. Good luck!

I'm still bloated too. The only time my stomach has ever gone down was when i was on antibiotics. I told my dr and he tested me for and infection and said that i didn't have one but he strongly recommended that I look up which probiotic is best for celiacs (which i'm pretty sure is bifidobacterium lactis which i read about in an article on celiac.com) and take that. He also suggested charcoal pills to absorb things that could be producing too much gas. My dr. seems to think that the good and/or bad bacteria in my gut are off balance and the antibiotics just killed everything, so that's why it went down and that these things will help. Maybe you could try it too! I just got the stuff last night and am going to start taking it today! good luck! I sure hope you get whatever is happening to you resolved!

When I was still recovering my gastroenterologist suggested I bought lactofree product as I was very bloated.  So I bought some from the supermarket and from memory, I drank a nice big glass of milk - and it went right through me literally within an hour or so, if my memory serves correctly.  I came off dairy completely next and it worked like a charm, but started to reintroduce quite gradually it as I missed it! To this day, if I overdo dairy products, they work like a mild laxative.  I've never wanted to give up milk completely as I like it so much, and my mum had osteoporosis and it's an easy way of getting calcium.  But it doesn't really 'sit' well with me.   You may need to experiment a bit as when I was healing certain dairy products were worse than others - I could cope with one brand of Greek yoghurt, but I got extremely and painfully bloated with another brand of live British yoghurt.

i have been strictly gluten free for 7 months. this includes avoiding anything that may contain gluten and making sure surfaces and appliances are clean. i am 18 years old in australia and my tTG-IgA results were 69U/mL, pretty low compared to most people's, for reference. i feel the exact same as before. sure, i was pretty much asymptomatic/silent. the worst i'd get was occasionally bad stools and pitting of the nails/brittle hair since early childhood - and i was diagnosed with low iron and vitamin d which checks out due to easy bruising and such. but those symptoms have remained. maybe i'm jumping the gun, sure. i know it can take years to fully heal. but being over half a year in, i feel that i should be, y'know, healing. i'm nearly at my wits end and wondering if i should have a piece of bread or something to see how i go - to see if i possibly have refractory? my mental health is declining as i feel myself wanting to bang my head against a damn wall out of frustration every day. cravings haven't gotten better. look, i love the stuff i still can have, like salads and such. OH! i haven't lost any weight, which is mind boggling considering i eat very healthily now! i've always been on the chubbier side which is atypical of coeliac. i just don't know what's going on with me. i try to remain hopeful but i'm just so sad all the time. thanks for reading

@Charlie1946There is a PM (Personal Message) tool built into the forum website that allows you to send a private message to other forum users. Just hover over their name with your mouse cursor and the menu containing that tool will pop up. This is useful if you want to communicate with an individual without everyone else involved in the thread seeing it.  Are you realizing that in my PPI taper down recommendations in an earlier post above, I was responding not to your posts but to @Caligirl57? If you must use a PPI, I certainly would advise taking the lowest dose that is effective for you.

Hi everyone, I'm still trying to figure out how to each message individually. I saw one with some information on sebaceous hyperplasia but now I can't find it. I appreciate you all so much for all your responses and advice! God bless! Hi everyone, I'm still trying to figure out how to each message individually. @trents thank you! I have only been taking 20mg 1x a day. Maybe I need to increase it.
