Hey I found this really cool website!!! It's called CeliacSociety.com and they make this whole trying-to-find-out-what-the-manufacturer-is-thinking thing so much easier! :)

Here's a copy of their homepage (today):

Wow. I am stunned by the wonderous simplicity of it all! :D You can look up: Manufacturers, Restaurants, Ingredients, or Foods by Category (it will give you a list of safe & forbidden foods along with their manufacturers).

Wow. They even have allergy alert cards & a way to create & print shopping lists to take with you when you go to buy gluten-free foods!!

I wish I had known about this a long time ago!! :P I am so happy! This is so cool!!

Great source... thanks!!!

Great source. It still needs a lot more information. I searched safe crackers, and only Energie Foods brand came up. Only 2 salad dressings came up.

Let's help complete this list! (Brain thank you so much for taking the time to create this site!)

We have to get more gluten-free medication lists out there for emergency situations. We have to get some kind of database set up in the hospital and pharmacies for quick answers. My daughter had to go without some anesthia for her ear tube operation last week, because the gluten-free status could not be determined. Despite that fact 3 people were looking in to it.

Do you have this link? Open Original Shared Link

It has a great list of what fillers are safe, in addition to a pretty big safe drug list (including companies). I don't know if you already know about this link - but it's the best one I've seen :)

Yes I do have that link. The drug was not on there. When the pharmacist said it should be avoided by anyone sensitive to cherries, there were shocked looks on the faces at the hospital. It must have occured to them that they have never asked anyone about being sensitive to cherries before using this drug, ever.

Hey guys :)

I have contacted one of the founders of the Celiac Society and told him that I'd posted his site here. Then I sent him a bunch of responses I've gotten from various companies when I asked them about their gluten-free status. I told him that *you* guys would be a great source of other responses - since I'm sure you have emailed lots of companies too! I asked if there was an address to which you should forward them & this was his response:

I'd be happy if you posted an email address. The best one would be contactus@celiacsociety.com or you could use brian@celiacsociety.com both will come to me.

Thanks for the earier email with the replies in it. I'll make sure to update our site. Also, I am very intersted in finding out new features that people would find helpful so if you have any ideas, feel free to pass them on.

I have a couple of features I am looking at adding soon.

1) Gluten Free recipes - these would be submitted by people who either modified exisiting gluten containing recipes or made new ones.

2) Gluten free Party Planner. You would be able to pick a type of event (birthday party, BBQ, etc) and we'd list gluten free foods that would be good to have at those events. This would be helpful for non-celiacs when they are planning something where people with celiac will be attending. The lists would be tied to what we have as gluten free in our system.

- Brian

I'm really excited that I found this site & that it looks like it could be so unbelievably helpful to celiacs! I'm going to make an extra effort to keep him updated when I find the "official commentary" from a company. Please help out & send him the info that you have :) Just think how helpful it will be to other people with Celiac Disease!! :)

I think his idea of a "gluten free party planner" is such a fabulous idea for 'friends of celiacs' :) Geez I wish my friends would be cool enough to do something like that! (Well, at least I know you guys would ;) tee-hee)

Thanks!

If the anesthesia was administered through a gas or IV, gluten would not be a problem, ever. Gases and IV liquids do not have gluten. This is according to the same guy who set up glutenfreedrugs.com and other medical people I've talked to.

Great source.  It still needs a lot more information.  I searched safe crackers, and only Energie Foods brand came up.  Only 2 salad dressings came up.

We are trying to add as many items as possible but part of our problem is that we can only add items that we know about and/or use. So, if you have some products that you use or want to know if they are gluten free, please send an email to info@celiacsociety.com or fill out the form at Open Original Shared Link. That way we can get a more comprehensive list.

Look at Delphiforums.com...go to the celiac board (under the health and wellness section). Go to their product list--it's about 70 pages long...in a small font. Very comprehensive. They also post confirmed gluten-free products under one read only section--I guess you could use their confirmations of products, as well.

Richard,

It was for pediatric pre-anesthia (usually the child will fall asleep before going into the operating room and it also has an amnesia effect), and it was to be administered in liquid form by mouth along with liquid tylenol. It could not be verified on time for my daughter's surgery and she went without it.

I have 3 gluten free medications list on my palm and the drug was not listed. (because it is not common for adults?)

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?
