Dealing With Type 2 Diabetes And Celiac

Hello,

Silly me going out and getting another food allergy. Now i'm having to combine the celiac disease and diabetes type 2. Anyone have any advice?

After I typed a nice long response I accidentally deleted. Maybe that is a message in itself. Anyway, I am sorry to hear that you have this also. I don't really have any experience with this, but I can share what I read. The flours we gluten-free folks use as replacements for the evil wheat flour, tend to be higher in carbs. That is defintiely a concern for you. Have you read anything about paleo or primal diets. These eliminate all grains, therefore greatly reducing the carb grams. In this way of eating all of your carbs come from fruit and veggies. You might find a lot of helpful advice at marksdailyapple.com. There are lots of very helpful folks there. This is a bummer, but I am sure you can handle it. :) Best wishes.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
