I trust Hershey's chocolate and eat a lot of their chocolate bars. However, I am on my second glutening (2 different bags) from Hershey's chocolate drops. I can't find anything evil in the ingredients, but I am glutened, my body does not lie about these things. Each time I got glutened, It happened right as I was eating it followed by the usual 3 days of migraine and illness. While eating them I had tingling and numbness on the roof of my mouth, and tongue, and instant headache, plus stuffy sinuses. I have the 3 days of illness to look forward too, since I got the second glutening today. I suspected them the first time, but since I trust Hershey's, I bought it again, and had the exact same experience. Anyone else have good/bad luck with the new Hershey's drops...which, by the way, are really delicious, so I am bummed out! :(

Where are you located? There was a post about the drops here on the forum in March or so, but at the time, the American version had wheat as an ingredient. The Canadian version didn't, I believe.

No one in my family has tried the Hershey's drops, but members of my family have said they were glutened by the Hershey's kisses, the chocolate bars, and the chocolate bars with almonds. Multiple tries to make it work, because my family really loves their chocolate. :)

I am in the United States. OMGosh, there IS wheat in the ingredients? I did not see wheat or any other gluten name. What did I miss? I already threw the bag out, so I can't look at the ingredients list unless I go dumpster diving. I'm checking for the ingredients online, but so far no luck. No wonder I was glutened! I knew I wasn't crazy! I induced vomiting to see if I can head off 3 days of misery. I hope it was worth it. Right now I feel fine...but tomorrow is still up in the air. Thank you for your response.

I hate a Hershey's Special bar the other day and no problems.

I looked up the March post concerning the Hershey's drops and found that the post was actually about Hershey's cookies and cream drops. I find nothing about the plain drops......but, my body does not lie, I will never eat another one again. :blink:

I emailed The Hershey Company about this, when I get a response, I'll post it.

Has anyone else eaten them safely, or had a reaction?

The ingrediants are gluten free, however, there's always a chance of cross contamination if you're sensitive to that. I've eaten them with no issues but the ingrediants are safe. I hope you feel better!

My husband dug the Hershey drops bags out of the trash for me. I read the ingredients and there is no indication of gluten what-so-ever.

The Hershey company called me this morning and assured me that there is no gluten and they use dedicated lines for processing, if they didn't, the bag would indicate that they use shared lines with gluten. Still, they want to investigate. They had me read all the numbers off of the bag. They also wanted any leftover candy for testing, but my kids ate them all. They did ask me to hold onto the empty bags in case they need them.

I have a migraine this morning, My sinuses are completely stuffed up, my eyes are red and watery and I have bad stomach cramps. I've had several rounds of the big D, even though I induced vomitting last night. I feel lousy and I know that the Hershey Drops glutened me. It's a mystery as to why though.

UPDATE~I have been glutened by Hershey's chocolate bars now as well, multiple times. No more Hershey's for me. I have no problem with M&M's and M&M's with peanuts made by Mars. I'll stick to them.

I haven't had a reaction, but there could be CC, and you could have been very unlucky. I ate multiple kinds of Lay's chips that were "no gluten ingredients, but processed on the same equipment blah blah blah"....I was fine probably 20 bags in, I got glutened and will not eat them again. All it takes is that one time to ruin it :(

M&M's and Reese's are great, too!!

Funny, I've had no issues with Lays Potato chips.....yet! But I have tested and restested Hershey's so many times now that I am sure they are a problem. I hope Lay's never lets me down...wishful thinking... B)

i've had drops before and had good luck with them. have yet to try the chocolate. I think i just might make my own bars...

      Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

      Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.

      To evaluate the TTG antibody result we’d need to know the normal range for that lab.  Labs don’t all use the same units.  However, based on any normal ranges that I’ve seen and the listed result being greater than a number rather than a specific number, I’d say yes, that is high! Higher than the range where the test can give a quantitative result. You got good advice not to change your diet yet.  If you went gluten free your intestines would start to heal, confusing any further testing,

      Scott is correct….Thank you for catching that!      Direct link for info  of fillers.    http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/Excipients.htm Link is on 2nd page  of www.glutenfreedrugs.com   Site was started by a pharmacist (or 2) maybe 15-20 yrs ago with LAST updated in  2017.  This makes it’s Drug List so old that it’s no longer relevant. Companies & contacts, along with suppliers &  sources would need to be referenced, same amount effort  as starting with current data on DailyMed      That being said, Excipient List is still be relevant since major changes to product labeling occurred prior ’17.           List is the dictionary that sources the ‘foreign-to-us’ terms used on pharmaceutical labels, terms we need to rule out gluten.    Note on DailyMed INFO— When you look for a specific drug on DailyMed, notice that nearly all of companies (brands/labels) are flagged as a ‘Repackager’… This would seem to suggest the actual ‘pills’ are being mass produced by a limited number of wholesaler suppliers (esp for older meds out of  patent protection.).      If so, multiple repackager-get  bulk shipments  from same supplier will all  be selling identical meds —same formula/fillers. Others repackager-could be switching suppliers  frequently based on cost, or runs both gluten-free & non- items on same lines.  No way to know  without contacting company.     While some I know have  searched pharmacies chasing a specific brand, long-term  solution is to find (or teach) pharmacy staff who’s willing help.    When I got 1st Rx ~8 years ago, I went to Walgreens & said I needed gluten-free.  Walked  out when pharmacist said  ‘How am I supposed  to know…’  (ar least he as honest… ). Walmart pharmacists down the block were ‘No problem!’—Once, they wouldn’t release my Rx, still waiting on gluten-free status from a new supplier. Re: Timeliness of DailyMed info?   A serendipitous conversation with cousin in Mi was unexpectedly reassuring.  She works in office of Perrigo, major products of OTC meds (was 1st to add gluten-free labels).  I TOTALLY lucked out when I asked about her job: “TODAY I trained a new full-time employee to make entries to Daily Med.’  Task had grown to hours a day, time she needed for tasks that couldn’t be delegated….We can only hope majorities of companies are as  conscientious!   For the Newbies…. SOLE  purpose of  fillers (possible gluten) in meds is to  hold the active ingredients together in a doseable form.  Drugs  given by injection or as IV are always gluten-free!  (Sometimes drs can do antibiotics w/ one-time injection rather than 7-10 days of  pills .) Liquid meds (typically for kids)—still read labels, but  could be an a simpler option for some products…
