Walk In Celiac Testing In Ames, Iowa!

For those in Iowa who are having difficulty getting tested, or who don't have insurance, I wanted to let you know that the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames will do Celiac Testing for $25. Just walk into the lab, no appt needed, no dr. referral needed. Simple and fast and CHEAP! They also do wellness profiles- (hemoglobin, cholesterol, PSA, etc.) I wish every large medical facility had this type of thing available. I actually found out about this by accident, it was mentioned in an older post on this site and seemed like a useful thing to bring to everyones attention again. My thanks to the original poster!

That's amazing and wonderful. Where I live, you can't even get a copy of your lab results from a lab unless your doctor writes on the rx that you can have a copy.

If you live in the US your certainly can. So many doctors have their heads up their butts that we actually made a federal law that requires that they give you any information pertinent to your own health upon request.

Marilyn, I thought you lived in the US? The best way to get a copy of lab results is to get them from the doc who ordered them. It's hard for labs to legally verify you are you to give you copies. So most don't handle that. They will send a copy at the same time they send them to the doc to anyone the doc specifies on the order. That actually may not be technically legal in every state.

Josh- Once the federal govt got a hold of HIPPA ( the federal law about health care privacy) , it changed from what we originally intended 20 years ago.

In all practicality, the best way to get copies is to ask the doctors office nicely. If you have problems, I can give you some ideas.

Thanks again Karen. I think in Montana you can pick up results from your blood work because it is state law. I think it should be the law everywhere! I never would have known I had a vitamin D defficiency unless I picked up and reviewed my own lab results. Sad, but true. Nobody from the doctor's office called me. (They call when they want to refer me to another dang specialist.)

In the US, in any state, you can get copies of the medical records. For lab results, it's easier to get them from a doctors office, especially if you are already there.

The paper record belongs to the doctor or facility. The information belongs to you. You can't ( except in rare circumstances) take the record from the doctor's office and leave him with none. You are in charge of who gets the info contained in the record. I don't remember if that was a federal law. I am thinkingi it may have been a Supreme court ruling years ago.

There are exceptions for all this such as mental competency issues and terminationofparental rights.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
