Where Do You Crock?

Saw this on my Facebook from Crockpot Girls. Thought it might be fun.

Love to "Crock" in our kitchens, but it is so easy to use "on the go" also! Where do you like to use your slow cooker besides your home?

Another interesting question might be: have you used it for something really odd? Like an incubator for chicks or to clean paint brushes?

The only place I have used it besides t he kitchen is the neighborhood pool for neighborhood parties. And the basement when my kitchen was getting re- done. I'm kinda boring.

Fun topic, Karen! So far I have only used mine in a house or outside on the deck - not as a chick incubator (although we did a lot of that on the farm when I was growing up - we'd bring baby chicks that were dying into the house to put into the warm oven - wait - that doesn't sound very good, does it? But it worked!).

We were going to take it with us camping but have not done so yet. I do not tend to use my crockpot a lot as I love to braise in my Le Creuset stovetop and then in the oven (in my crazy culinary mind a crockpot takes fun out of cooking for me!). I love a proper braise and a challenge. :)

Can't wait to hear what others use their crockpots for.

I feel so prudish! I've only ever crocked in my kitchen.

Oh wait there was that one time at church.... :o

and maybe once for Christmas dinner at a friend's house. ;)

I guess I need to be more adventurous!

How fun!

I took the crock out...stashed the part with the cord in a closet

and used it to hold all my cooking utensils on the counter...

I thought I was being very creative too.

Now I use it for making bone broth...for extra minerals. ;)

Well, I'm pretty boring, too. I've only used mine in my kitchen but it is handy when I have to bring already cooked food somewhere and can then plug it in and keep it hot.

I used mine in my living room while redoing my kitchen..

I've only used it in the kitchen..but my hubby took it to work with a batch of chicken chili in it. To be honest..I need to use it more. Mostly it stays stored in the basement.

On the FB page, people are cooking in thier cars on the way to vacation. I was reading them to hub, now he wants to do that, too! I said that would be hard. Most stuff starts smelling good hours before its ready to eat! It would be torture driving for 4 hours smelling something yummy!

How are they plugging it in? Is there a crockpot with a cigarette lighter attachement somewhere? I also wonder where they place it so it doesn't burn anyone or slosh about if they go over bumps. Mine gets pretty hot-- I wouldn't want it on the passenger side floor near my legs!

We have an adapter thing so you can plug in anything you plug in the wall. The adapter plugs into the cigarette lighter. The boys can plug in a TV and an Xbox with it. I think we would put the crock pot in a cardboard box & not fill it too full. If M & Hub really want chili when they get somewhere, they will build a box that fits for it! :D

Oh my Bubba's mom! I use mine at least once a week. I used to have two but I broke my smaller one and I only have a big 6.5 QT Oval one now. I use it so much I leave it on my kitchen counter.

*envisioning myself driving down the highway in my truck with the back window open, cord coming through to plug in the crock pot that's strapped into the bed of the truck, being followed by hungry travelers wondering why the entire journey smells like chili*

Hope you don't have to drive through winding mountain roads where the bears and bobcats might get a whiff of your chili and follow you!

You’re not crazy—some people have severe neurological and physical reactions to gluten, not just digestive issues. While testing can be tricky without eating gluten, documenting symptoms and seeing a specialist familiar with atypical celiac or gluten-related disorders can help. Your reactions are real, and it’s valid to be cautious.

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.

I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
